Aircon Conversion or Trade Existing Car to another 2nd Hand Car

We have a 15 year old car which is still using the CFC-12. We will not be allowed to register on 2012 until we have the aircon system converted to other alternative refrigerant. We have no plans of buying a brand new car so our only option is to convert the aircon system of our existing car or buy another 2nd hand car which already complies to the new government regulation.
Which do you think is the right move?
