What do you do with a book when you complete it?

If a book is really, really, good, I might save it to re-read it one day. However, with a lot of books, I just decide to put them in a box upstairs until the point where I can sell them in a garage sale and recoup some of the money I have spent. Sometimes, the books look mostly brand new, so people are getting a deal. What do you do with your books when you finish reading them?

Yes, I find myself keeping many of my books. Of course, there comes a point where I might have to get a bit selective, due to space issues. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I would rather trade them with another book so i don't have to spend centavo in buying a new one. It is more wiser, i think.

Hi tiffany miro: I think that's a good idea specially for persons like us that enjoys the passion of reading. I don't like to lose my books and I think it's good to compensate my loss having new books to read and discover new things, at least. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

Yes trading them in is an interesting idea. That way, we get a fresh book and its a usable book for someone else to read. So everyone wins. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I keep the book and when I'm bored and got nothing to do I read it again. I haven't thought of selling my books

I give my very old books to my relatives(the younger generations) There is only one local library in our area and it is our national library, it's not that popular too and a bit old.

Yeah, I used to do that until I had so many books. I figured I might as well sell them, because it sure beats just pitching them, although I have to keep an eye out for the library, when they are taking donations because they tend to ask for used books every now and then. Thank you for your response. It was much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

To be honest I get most of my books from the library.
Others I borrow off my daughter so always give them back to her.
Also on the park where I live we have our own little library were everyone puts the books they have finished with and we can go and take any as often as we want to.

That sounds like a nice place to have around you. Yeah, I used to get a lot of books from the library, but I read them in such an odd manner, that putting a time table on when they are due back can be a problem. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I love my books and I treasure them so much. I don't think I could ever part with any one of them. I keep them for my children and for my children's children. My belief is, however old a book is, it will always be worth it's weight in gold. I know that for sure because when I was young, I love to read my parent's and grand parent's books from their old library. For me books can be some kind of a priceless legacy for the next generation. Besides, books are like silent instructors that are available anytime for anyone to learn from.

Yeah, books can be hard to part with a lot of the time. Unfortunately, running out of room tends to mandate that I part with some of them. Its difficult trying to be selective a lot of the times, granted. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I just store them inside a box or cabinet for future re-reading. It never crossed my mind to sell them. Besides, i only have a few books, i think they are only around 30, comic books included. I have lots of magazines though, those are what i call 'a waste of money' looking back, since when i finish reading them, its purpose has been served. It has a shelf life as well since they release it monthly, unlike books.

Yes, there are many reading materials that I bought that I would consider to be a waste of money. Such as magazines. They had valuable articles that I wanted at the time but now are a bit dated. They do tend to linger, even if I have gotten rid of the vast majority of them. There are still a couple around. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hey megamatt~ I love to read! About 2 years ago I did a major
clean out and got rid of alot of old books that I hadn't looked
in years. They weren't in great condition so I threw most of
them out. I had out dated Enyclopedas that were my Mom's when
she was young and she is now 80 so they were really worthless!lol
And I love to buy new books all the time. When I see something
in a store at a reduced price or sometimes online I buy it.
I will sometimes read a book twice because after awhile I do
sort of forget the whole story and if it was a book that I
really liked I don't mind reading it again! I have quite a few
new books right now that I am looking forward to reading.
I mostly keep my books, but I am also thinking of having a
garage/tag sale so I may sell some of them.

It is truly a mark of a good book when its something that you can read it over and over again. When I re-read books, I tend to find things that I might have missed on my first reading. Those are truly the greatest books out there. The kind that I keep. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I read informational books more than once, or use them for reference later. However, other than that I rarely reread a book. But I still keep them. I put them on my bookshelf! I am pretty selective about what i purchase, so I do pretty good. I also go through them every once in awhile and it helps to keep them down to the "necessary" ones!

Yes, being selective in what you purchase is a key. I tend to get a lot of books for cheap at Garage sales to read, that look remotely interesting but when I am done, they might not be as worth keeping as a thought. Thank you for your response. It was much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hi mega matt: I love books. I have a lot of books in my library that I've bought since I was 14 years old. Actually I'm thinking right now about what books I am going to buy next year. In my case, I always try to keep the books after reading them because you never know if you want to read them later. You can fall in love opf a book in different moments of your life. Thanks for sharing you ideas of what you are doing with your books too. Have a nice day.

I have a lot of books from my childhood and teen years to. In fact, I may have some that I have forgot that I still had. I have not done an inventory on books in a few months and have not really done a detailed sweep for books lingering. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I have always dreamt of having a library so I collect books but only those that I really like. But there were also some books I gave to my sister and I think she sold those after reading them. The ones that are left with me, I re-read them once in a while.

I keep all of mine, the only time I get rid of books is if someone like a friend or a family member sees a book and wants to have it. I like having a lot of books, and I like most books that I own, so I think it is nice to re-read them every once in a while. I have no re-read all of my books, but quite a few of them have been read more than once.

Yes, it is nice to re-read books. Especially considering there are many times where you might read the first time and not catch a few subtle details. So for the really good books, a re-read is pretty essential. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

keeping it is a collection is what i usually do with books that i gave finished i prefer my book just to be somewhere withing grasps when i need them i don't really believe that a book can lose its essence when you finished it you can still make use of it or enjoy reading it again when there is something that you think you might have skipped so just think twice before wasting a good book.

Yes, there are always things that one may miss when they read a book. That's why I re-read a lot of the longer books. The longer the book is, the more you might overlook certain things. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

most of my books come from the library so my books go back into our library bag to be returned. seldom will i buy a book (sometimes i do at thrift stores or garage sales) but i do have a few favourites that i actually own and i reread them every couple of years or so.

Yes, when you get a lot of the books at the library, then its hardly a problem. Of course, there were times where I went out and bought my own copy of a book because it was something that I borrowed and I enjoyed. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Most books I pass on so they can be enjoyed by others. I have a very small collection of books that I will keep forever. I have a bible, a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a couple of natural healing books and a book on meditation. I also have my fairy tale book from when I was a little girl as well as my favorite of all time ...Alice in Wonderland. The set was my aunt's when she was a girl and it was given to me when I was a little girl. I don't invest a lot of money in books. I tend to go to the library often. In the summer, I do stop at yard sales and I'll pick up some books for 25 to 50 cents just to have on hand.

I add them to my collection if I liked them... if I didn't then I'll give it to a used book store. Someone else will enjoy it more than me. With my home collection my books often make the rounds through my family members and friends. I'm a mad crazy reader so lately my family's been depending on me to give them good books to read. My Mom recently told me, "Hey! Give me books!" And I gave her a stack of twelve books. She's only gotten through about three, but she's loved them all.

Yes, it tends to be like that a lot of the time. Get some books from a family member. Then pass them on. Then they pass them on to another one if they are not wanted and well, you get the idea. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

It depends on the book. Some I might want to read again or refer to so I have to find shelf space for them. Others I might pass on to a friend, they might get sold on Amazon or e-bay if they are worth something, the might go to a charity shop. If I'm going to a local nursery (plants not kids) they have a shelf by the checkout for free book exchange, you take old books in and help yourself to any you like the look of.

That sounds like a lot of interesting ways to get rid of books. I think that the really good boos, we can find space for or if we know it might be useful. Others, we can get rid of in a variety of ways. Of course it is nice to recoup what I have spent, at least a little bit. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I was in my keep them all mode a few years ago. Of course, that was before the point where I had a lot of books. I mean a lot of books and less room. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
