What a fanatic, a friend of mine skip his work today just to watch the world cup. I knew it, and he really had done it. His national team, Hondura Vs Chile today, and it is in the morning around 6:00 A.M. He might just watch the whole until the end, and he made up some lame excuse, saying he is sick or something to work. So he can stay home watch the whole game. I called him up during the break, and he first pretend to be not - well. Later, I told him, coast is clear, he told me the truth. Too bad, Chile won 1 - 0. Better luck next time then.

Awe, he skipped a day of work to watch the game and lost his pay for the day. THEN his team lost. I kinda feel badly for him..........kinda. Here's hoping they win next time.
I have a friend who used to go to the opening day at Tiger stadium every year. Once his boss who was a real jerk wouldn't give him the day off, even though he scheduled it in advance. He went to the game anyway. lol.

I don't think he lost a day of pay, because you can always take a sick day off, just make up whatever reason you have. Just a day, it won't be a big deal.

Hi touta: Neither do I. I enjoy watching some of the football scenes while I'm watching the news but I am not a big fan of soccer so for me my priority is my own work. Even with that, I try to understand that people is a little crazy because of the events. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

I´m chilean and although I don´t have a work to skip, I can tell you that this game was seen by most of our countrypeople. Even our President went to one of the places that got hit worst by February´s earthquake and he slept in one of the small wood houses in that location. Then he went to see the match with the people there. Even though I did not vote for him, I think my country needs this after so much pain and destruction.
Soccer is THE sport we, chileans, care about. I have seen americans glued to the TV for baseball, football or hockey. With us is soccer.
I´m very happy for the triumph of "La Roja". That´s how we call our national team.

Wow that's so sick. But I was in some similar situations. I think it happens when you are addicted to something. For example I was in some situations in which I didn't go to school just because World Of Warcraft game. But I haven't heard stories like that. Being addicted to football sounds very funny :).

Hi king parker: ANd he's not the only one my friend. People are usually a little bit crazy these days when another World Cup starts and I think we have to understand this... football means passion and excitement and people approach to each other to support their national teams so in general I think I can understand these crazy behaviours. Thanks for sharing with us this story. Have a nice day.

Hahahaha. I just listen it on the radio. On our island they say everyday just tell the true, you want to stay at home to watch the football. Don't call and tell you are ill or something else. But they have put tv every where here on the island. All the office 80% have a tv for World Cup.

I will never skip work for any game not even cricket which love the most. If I am out of job because of that will not be able to enjoy the game anymore. Job would be my priority in this case. If at all I want to skip work, it would be a planned leave. I can take a leave for World cup final of Cricket
