So I just got surgery on my knee yesterday. It's all wrapped up, so I haven't looked at it yet, but I know that there's going to be two nasty scars. Do you know of any good remedies to prevent and get rid of scars? I heard that messaging with lavender oil works well, so I think I'm going to give that a try. Have you ever used lavender oil for this purpose? If so, how did it work for you?

hi sketch,
Vitamin E worked amazing for me. I had a burn scar on my leg that was at least 15 years old and covered my leg from my ankle to above the knee as well as some of the other leg. I heard about vitamin E and thought...why not? I applied it each night before going to bed. Over time the scar did begin to fade. I now runs just below my knee to about 2 inches above the ankle. I am convinced that if I continued with it that it would have disappeared entirely. I got older and it stopped bothering me so much so I stopped the treatment. I would imagine that if you start when the scar is fresher that this would work even better.

Hi there. From my experience with burns and cuts, pharmaceutical creams are good since they are specifically made to help with healing scars. A more natural way to try to help with the healing is honey. It's very mild and soothing. The only thing that gets to me is the smell. Honey smells and it's kind of strong at first. I really like this remedy compared to buying creams.

Yea I'v heard about honey, so I might try that, but I don't really know if I could stand the stickiness of it.

I am facing a similar problem. I recently had a bad infection on my left knee which required antibiotics and a small operation. My knee is healing now and it is not as painful but I know I will be left with a nasty scar. I plan to use BiOil (PurCellin Oil) on it as I used it on my daughter’s scar and it worked quite well.

I hope your recovery goes well. I have heard that lavender oil works well for this, but have not done it. Coconut oil also works well I have been told, but I have not had a serious wound to test these on myself for a few years. I have quite a few decent scars from years gone by when I did not know of these remedies though.
Another good thing for repairing skin tissue is MSM powder. MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane) is a natural form of sulphur which works great on a wide variety of physical conditions. It is also great to have when you are working out lots as it helps the muscles to heal as they tear and grow bigger.
You just pop some into a glass of orange juice and drink it. The reason I suggest orange juice is that it is more effective when taken with Vitamin C. I put it into my smoothies that I have every day with freshly squeezed orange juice or Camu-Camu powder which is extremely high in Vitamin C.

Honey Works! So does arnica for bruising and you will be prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflamatories to reduce the swelling which should help. Scars are irritating, but their appearance does become less obvious over time. I have loads and they tend to blend into your skin quite well after a while. Hope you have a safe recovery. Thanks for posting. :)

Pigmented Scars can be lightened successfully.
Applying a prescription hydroquinone-based bleaching cream once the wound has healed may work, but it can cause redness, itching, stinging and even sun sensitivity if you have skin that's easily irritated. You can also try more gentle over-the-counter lighteners like MD Formulations Vit-A-Plus Illuminating Serum with vitamin C and licorice extract, a botanical that has been proven in studies to be an effective skin lightener.
