What are your favorite condiments?

June 16, 2010 9:32pm CST
A condimentis any substance used to flavor or complement your food, such as spices, salt, ketchup, and mustard. I like ketchup, mayonnaise, and barbecue sauce. I like to put ketchup on hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, french fries, and curly fries. And I like barbecue sauce on ribs and chicken. And Mayonnaise goes tasty with sandwiches and burgers. What are your favorite condiments and what food do you like your condiments to go with?

Those are all well and good, but this past year we made horseradish for the first time. We sure enjoyed it along with all the others.

Grind horseradish root 1cup. Add 3/4 white vinegar, 2 teaspoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt. Refrigerate. Easy, but smelly.

My favorite condiment on a hamburger is relish. My favorite condiments for other things has to be garlic and pepper. Garlic, pepper and red pepper flakes makes everything taste so much better. As for ketchup I could only put it on a hamburger and french fries that is it. I know someone who would put ketchup on everything including ice cream. I think that is totally disgusting.

Wow ketchup on everything? that's a little extreme. I read that Ketchup is actually really good for you because of the antioxidants in tomatoes. Not sure if it's true though! :)

Hello iwinagain. Hot dogs and hamburger need ketchup and mustard. But I think I'm going to change that to horseradish because I like the bite that horseradish has and it turns out that it belongs to those foods that fight cancer. I don't care for any thing on my fries except a little extra salt. Barbecue sauce and mayonnaise aren't my cup of tea as far as condiments go. BBQ sauce is just too sweet and Mayonnaise just tastes rancid to me.

The one I don't like is mayonnaise. To me it cuts into the flavor, so I may consider it on spicy sandwiches, like buffalo chicken (chicken with a very spicy tomato sauce) but I would think blue cheese salad dressing would be best on it. On regular sandwiches including hamburgers and hot dogs I prefer mustard, and peppers are a plus, moderately spiced. I put black pepper on almost everything. Salt is overused in fast food and even in some restaurants. I despised ketchup for quite a few years, I'm using it sparingly now, mainly after my french fries get below a certain temperature. I experimented with horseradish and ginger, I prefer them fresh and pure, not in any kind of sauce. My mother used to get a combination of pickled vegetables (carrots, cauliflower, onion, and I don't know what else) and called it piccadilly or picalili. I think it was preferred with roasts.

Just this year we started making our own steak sauce. I always have mayo, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt and pepper in my home as well as Johnny's Seasoning Salt. Johnny's is pure magic! To make steak sauce, we just use 1 part Worcestershire sauce and 3 parts ketchup. Yummy!

My favorite condiments are mayonnaise, we call it here toyomansi its with soy sauce, calamansi and chili. Mayonnaise is good with french fries and sandwiches. But of course I love the japanese mayonnaise unlike the typical too sweet mayonnaise in the local market we have here. The other condiment which we call toyomansi here is good with fish, chicken and other grilled food possible here in the country.
