Personally i tend to prefer sending a message. However many people opt to just dial the number and call because it is faster. What do you prefer to do with your cellphone?

It depends on the person mostly. There are a few people that I always want to call and talk to because hearing their voice makes me happy, but I like texting them too. Most of the time though, I prefer texting. I'm not very social, so it saves me the trouble of a possibly awkward conversation. Plus, I can always stop myself from saying something stupid when it's a text :)

I am not very sociable either, I understand what you said. Sometimes in fact i manage to express myself better by a message than in a conversation. Maybe that is one of the main reasons why I prefer to ssend a message. Besides as you said it is a big advantage of texting to avoid sending incorrect info, stupid comments or smething like that.

I'd rather send a message than call. But if what I am going to say to the other person very important and is difficult to express through text then I would rather call. I also prefer calling during emergencies. Especially now, calling is better because it would not cost too much anymore because of the free call that I get.

The cost effects the decision in fact. Call costs vary from one service provider or country to another. So it depends. it also depends on the amount of credit available in the account :) In emeregency situations it is always best to call i totally agree with you. there are also several situations where the space available to cram all the information you wish to communicate is not enough and then it is a matter of 'might as well call' in terms of time involved and cost of sending multiple messages.

I prefer calling. Sending and receiving a series of messages in the course of transmitting information is tedious. I do send text messages from time to time, but if I need to know something asap, I have to call.

Yes if the message is uregnt it is best to call. However I end up texting if the person I try to call does not answer, maybe he is not in a position to respond. On the factor that you may have to send more than one message to cram all the info, I agree with you that it is one of the main disadvantages of texting.

i prefer to call if its really something important.. specially if the person is not replying or doesnt have credits anymore... sometimes, i like to just send text message if its just to ease the boredom..

Yes that sometimes happens to me too. Writing an sms takes some time and sometimes it taked longer if you take more time to try to cram in the whole content you would like to communicate - so it is a great way of spending time while in the queue or something like that :)

It depends if it's too important I do call at once but If I can still wait for the response sending a message is enough.

Yes the timing required and the type of communication needed has a direct effect on whether to call or text.

I prefer to just dial a number. Like you said it's faster. And for me I rather call my friend or family because it's not too expensive to call and I can directly said what I want to said..

Yes the cost issue plays a role here. In some countries it is cheaper to call in fact. There are also various offers and promotions sometimes. So in that case it is best to benefit from the cheap call rates.

it depends upon the matter. if its a matter which is easily understandable by message and not needs a quick response then i will message it otherwise i will make a call

I prefer to call someone. Communication with another person is important to me. i like the one on one contact even if it by voice. I don't like sending a message unless i really don't want the contact, Messages are cold and unfeeling. There is no emotion in a message.

I do not agree with you that a message is cold and unfeeling. I still have saved messages from my loved ones who conveyed their love very well through them. A message can be better than a call to that extent as it can be saved and re-read. A call is a good way of communicating, but it has to be recorded to be heard again.

I prefer to call because I do not have the patience to wait for a response. Particularly because the response may prove the the receiver of the text didn't understand my text fully. So what then? I send another text to clarify? No way. Text messages cannot properly convey emotions or attitude in the way a verbal conversation can. Even with emoticons. Imagine the phrase "I hate you" beinbg received at 2am on a Sunday morning! It may have been a friendly "you're so lucky you make me sick" type of hate,l but you wouldn't know that until it may be too late.

Yes I tend to agree with you on this point - it is a disadvanatge of sending a message to have the recepient receive it at a later time, maybe at an awkward time or too late to make the content of the message be valid anymore.

If I feel that a message would suffice then I send a message, and if it is necessary to have a conversation then I make a call.

Hi grkelly! A call would be more personal. It brings you closer to the person you talked to. It should work well with invitations, saying thank you or well done. My cellphone connects me with my family. I love to hear my kids as much as they do.
