The emperor Napoleon got by on four hours sleep a night and Thomas Edison claimed it was a waste of time.So Why do we need to sleep?
No one knows actually. Most people believe that sleep gives the body a chance to recover from the day's activities, but in reality the energy you gain by eating a piece of toast is the same as sleeping for eight hours.
One way to understand the role of sleep is to find out what happens if we don't get it.Lack of sleep has serious effects on our brain's ability to function. If you don't sleep for a night, you need more time to concentrate.Continuous sleeplessness affects our part of the brain that controls language, memory, planning and our sense of time.In other words we must all sleep to maintain our normal level of skills in speaking.
However, there is no set amount of time that everyone needs to sleep each night. One thing's for sure-we can't live without it.How much time do you usually sleep and do you think it's enough?

It is funny, before I could get by on 6-8 hours no problem, sometimes even just 6, but now, I always tend to want to sleep around 10 hours. As for people say it is a waste of time, I disagree, I think it is actually better to sleep more, because you spend much more time in the better of the two worlds. In your dreams you can do whatever you want, so why not want to spend more time in them, plus they are free. I think it is more a waste of time to spend the majority of your life awake in this cruel world.

I agree with you to some extend due to knowing dreams are not real.Personally i prefer to be awake and experience the hard unrewarding, but sometimes good, life.
I kinda like solving the problems i have, because that makes me feel alive. :)

Oh, dreams are 100% real, after all, you live, feel, hear, see, taste, smell everything in your dream, so it is real. Just like this part. Who knows, maybe that is the true life, and this is the real dream.
