Is it just me or are people increasingly willing to compromise their health in order to satisfy the desire to be socially accepted?
Both men and women are bombarded with images and verbal/visual advertisements telling us how to look and act.
Using sunbeds
Taking tanning pills/ diet pills
plastic surgery
spending copious amounts on hair and makeup
eating disorders
smoking and drinking excessively to fit in
Have we all gone mad because most of us are guilty of these things. I myself have an eating disorder, induced through dieting to lose weight, both for health and material reasons.
Just wondering what other people think... where will it end??

of course health is much more important than image.without a healthy body we even can't enjoy the happiness in our lives.but I don't say image is not important for all of us.what we should do is to purse the beauty under the condition of health.

i agree with this, and if you have health, you will have beauty, because it will reflect on your face

yeah.we know that the plastic surgery is one of the most profitable surgeries in the world now.but I think a grandma without winkles is pretty horrible.

I think it´´s a shame the importance that people are playing in the outside now. Inner beauty has no importance noadays and peopel spend their lives earning money to embellish their bodies (not that they manage to do it). The problem is deeper than just a diet pill, some makeup or a plastic surgery. It has to do with a lack of important values. I am very worried because, as you say, noone knows where it will end.

Your health should always be a more important issue in your life. Image is just about appearance and how you are perceived by others. Image is nothing if health fails you. We have to take care of what we have, not what we want others to believe we have.

I can tell you one thing GOD gave us life and gave us everything we want and said rule the world and be flourish...
but we are not following that we are going for artificial things and leaving natural things.. taking pills and eating unwanted thing and drinking alchohol and get compromised like 'oh! one day we are going to die just enjoy the life dude'
so stop eating unnecessary things and enjoy the nature

Health is more important. Maybe it depends on where you live. I live in Canada and health is not a problem because most of the medication and services are free. So obviously, we can get easy access to that category. So people here would consume more image products. But once a person wants to be healthy, he/she will do exercises for example. The image would come afterwards.

I think health is ever the most important thing in life, if we have a good health we have everything in life, we can work perfectly to get money thus fulfilling many desires and needs also and it all start with health so it is better to be healthy and the image will come up later too.

Hi,
People are compromising lot more than that. The inherent inferiority complex is the culprit. Unfortunately, we start working from outside, whereas a more effective method would be to start from inside and then work all the way to the outside. Everyone is beautiful. Some people do understand this fact, but some people never understand it at all. A healthy person is a beautiful person. A person with whom it feels safe and peaceful to be with, is the most beautiful person. This will never end. As long as we hold this materialistic attitude, we will always fall in the trap. Thanks
God bless you

Sadly I noticed that people (around my neighbourhood) are getting more and more superficial nowadays and image holds a very important role.
In my case, image has to be in terms of a lot of material gain and that puts a lot of strain to financial health.
Either its financial, mental or physical health it all mounts to how you feel about yourself.
When I was in my teens, the boys would tease me about my being short. But that didnt bother me because I knew I was good at something. My teachers loved me and that what keeps me being confident even at this old age.
I suggest you focus on your strength and develope your talent (maybe you are good at painting?) and forget about image. When everybody see how happy you are, they will be envious.
