I have a 10 Gallon aquarium and I'm planning to put marine fish on it. So any suggestions what to start with?

Hi!
A 10 gallon tank is pretty small for a salt-water aquarium... BUT...
When I was a child I had a tiny 5 gallon fish tank. I really wanted some interesting pets, and since my parents wouldn't let me get anything other than fish I decided to try sea horses!
There are some tiny breeds of seahorses, and I figure if I could keep them in a 5 gallon tank (with no filter, just an air-stone!) at 10 years old they must be pretty hardy!
Back then you could get them through the mail. I ordered a "kit" which included a female, a male and a pregnant male! They also included a sea snail. It was SO NEAT to watch the male seahorse give birth.
They were easy to feed too. They ate newly hatched brine shrimp. I would sprinkle brine shrimp eggs on the surface of the tank and within a day their fresh food had hatched!
Anyway, I would suggest seahorses since you have such a small tank. They are very interesting and adorable :)
Good luck!!

It was a long time ago :) (over 20 years ago!). I looked quickly online and found these... http://www.seahorseworld.com/product_p/6dsmaf.htm They look just like the ones I had..
They were very small (smaller than "normal" seahorses). I do remember that I had them for almost a year (until I left them in the care of my little brother for a summer while I was away at camp). And, like I said, since I was only about 10 years old they mustn't have been TOO hard to take care of! :)
Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

I think it is very hard to keep a marine aquarium. It needs a lot of work and time to maintain. I suggest you consider having a Freshwater tank instead. You can take care of some beautiful cichlids. they are easy to keep and a cichlid tank is the closest to having a marine aquarium. search it on the web. I have been keeping cichlids for 3 months now and they are a joy keeping. there are lots of species of cichlids you can choose from. some very colorful and some very easy to keep and breed.
