Father's Day is a Special Day?

A couple of days from now and it is officially Father's Day. Celebrating
the joy of fatherhood. Just like Mother's Day, it is celebrated with much commercialism here in my country. I doubt if all families are really celebrating this day.
As I was growing up, I never recall greeting my father a happy father's day. It is not part of our practice as a family to do so. It is not that we don't love the fathers in our family but we aren't use to celebrating it like the way we celebrate birthdays and Christmas.
How about you, do you celebrate it or you just treat it as ordinary day created special by capitalists to advertise products and boosts sales during this day?
Thanks for responding.:-)

we really do not celebrate things like these, like mothers day, etc. this sunday, it just happened that my sister and her family came over to visit us. and so i brought them to a resort in cebu.

Oh,most Filipinos don't. But it is a good alibi to unwind and bond with family.
You are lucky to have a break, Neil. Their timing is just perfect.!

These 8 years i am always away from home and when it is Father's Day,i just call my father and greet him a happy father's day on the cell phone, but we are not use to celebrating it formally. Actually, when i was in junior high school i seldom greeted my father a happy father's day and we only took it as an ordinary day without any special. Now i grow up and begin working in a company, tomorrow is the Father's Day i will greet him happy father's day on the phone and four days later i will go back home and bring a gift to him.

Albeit it is seem ok either to celebrate or not to celebrate Father's Day , but I am pretty sure that whenever you greet your father on that very day, he feels proud and happy that his child do remember to greet him. It is a clear indication that you realized how lucky you are for having him as a father.
Sadly ,on my part, I never greeted my father a Happy father's day...

No eurekafemme, it's not so popular in our country. All these "days" are becoming popular of course. But still a long way to go I think..

That's what I thought, too, Vijayanths.:-)Actually, my husband was telling me that it is because of the capitalists why we do have so many special days to celebrate. He wouldn't be surprised if there's a Sister's day or a brother's day somebody. There's already a Grandparents' Day, as a matter of fact.LOL
It is not so popular that this discussion is not gaining respondents that much.
Thank you for responding, though, dear.:-)

Thank you, Indahfth, for sharing your thoughts and for being the first one to respond.:-)
Americans (pardon me if I am incorrect) are the ones who started this celebration. Though there's nothing wrong to it but I think Father's day should always be every day and not just this day.
You are right, we can best express our gratitude towards our fathers during their birthdays because during that time, they are the only ones we think about making it real special for them. :-)
