Have you ever experienced a subconscious sleep?

It happened to me at least one a week - a subconscious sleeping condition where part of you is asleep but the part is still conscious. To make matter worse you will experience something or somebody is trying to press on you against the bed. Pressing so hard that you are not able to move at all! Then comes the struggle (in your part) to escape from the pressure, if you able to move a tiny part of your body, say any of your finger then this will wake you up immediately. Weird but it always happened to me!

this has never happened to me but it sounds like a combination of lucid dream and old hag syndrome, lucid dreaming is where your awake at the same time while dreaming as well. Old hag syndrome is where you wake up but you can't move and feel a pressure on your chest as if someone is holding you down.

it used to happen to me too and i hope i wont experience it again.. it has been happening to me when we were still living in an old house my family rented.. i dont know why, but it usually happen when i take a nap in the afternoon... i can feel and i can hear my mother going in and out of my room.. i want to move, i want to wake up but i cant... i want to ask my mom to wake me up, but i cant.. and sometimes, im already able to move but i cant totally wake up.. that is why sometimes, if i could move a leg, id jump and try not to sleep again.. and usually when it happens, i would pray and ask God to wake me up... good thing i havent experienced it now, and hope never again...

Glad to hear that this is not only happening to me. Is this a ghost phenomenon of an old house?

I've tried that once or twice before. I would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to move except being able to wiggle my finger. My mother called it being slept on by a ghost But I think a lot of people experience it and it shouldn't harm us except it is a little annoying. When I do experience this, eventually I drift back off to sleep or if I struggle long enough I would be able to move my body again.

It sounds to me like you're trying to describe what is medically named "Sleep Paralysis". I've heard it called thinks like scissor lock and old hag syndrome... but subconscious sleep is a new one. Basically what happens is that while you are in REM sleep your body sends a hormone down your spine to keep you from moving, thrashing around, or acting out your dreams in reality. Sometimes when a person wakes up from deep REM sleep suddenly, the brain is still sending the hormone to keep you from moving. So you awaken and find yourself unable to move. There are additional symptoms like feeling like a weight is pressing down on your chest, or feeling like you are unable to breathe. People experiencing sleep paralysis may also have hallucinations because the brain itself might still be partially asleep. It's normal for a person with no medical problems to experience sleep paralysis multiple times within their lifetime. It's happened to me twice. The first time I was terrified. I was hearing angry voices and I felt like there was a huge weight pressing down on my chest and I couldn't breathe. After I did some research, I found out that this is a common occurrence. The second time it happened, it was kind of comical. I saw a little dwarf sitting at the foot of my bed writing notes. I tried kicking him and yelling at him, but of course I couldn't move. Eventually he faded away and I was able to move again. I got up laughing.

this has happened to me (and still) countless time, and apart from nightmare, this is another reason why i hate sleeping. the most annoying part is, when it is happening to me, i'm still aware enough to force myself to move at least my finger or one of my leg. then after succeeding doing that, if i do go back to sleep straight away (this is one thing, which it is scary enough but i can't avoid the sleepiness!), then it will continues treating me. i still don't understand why it's happening, and it's so real to me as well. well, a lot of stories about it, been happening to me since high school.

There could be an explanation to this phenomenon since other people is also experiencing this.

I'm so glad to find there are other people experiencing this besides me. This kind of thing began happening to me when I was a teenager and our family first moved into a new house in a new city. I thought it was because of the house being haunted or something but the problem followed me everywhere else. For me I don't necessarily feel like someone is holding me, I feel completely paralyzed. This is the big reason that I leave a tv on at night. I don't what it is but hearing the sound from the tv keeps me from having this experience.

It happens to me every time before I fall asleep. I call it my "twilight zone" or "limbo". This is the few moments before I fall in deep slumber. During this moment I can still hear noises, sounds or people talking and I can also sense myself snoring. Then a body jerk, a sudden loud noise, or something sub-consciously wakes me up from partial sleep into reality. There was a time when I almost figured in a car accident. I was driving right after a heavy lunch. The aircon, the smooth highway, the soft music over the car radio all did their job to lull me to sleep. Then suddenly I was jerked to full consciousness when my car was already running over the graveled shoulder of the highway about to run smack into a big tree. I stepped on the brakes just in time before smashing into the tree trunk. Good thing I was still in my "twilight zone".

This has happened to me many times. I want to wake up because I feel like I won't be able to wake up anymore if I don't. Sometimes I tried to scream but I can't. So what I usually do is just try to open my eyes as hard as I can. And when I do I don't usually go back to sleep. I just get out of my house then breathe some air outside. Its kinda scary sometimes.
