i'd like to know which settings is the best to avoid much harm to the eyes while using the computer.. do you use the computer with the screen as bright like a piece of clear paper? or do you prefer to make it dim such that it is just right to view while the screen brihtness does not really shine out that much (in a way a bit greyish)?
When its grey/dimmer you do not feel the sharpness into your eyes, but you might need more strain on reading words on the screen, but when it is bright and easy to view, you feel that the brightness is too sharp for the eyes.. which is your preference? and which is best for the eyes? is there any other way or material that you use to protect your eyes from the computer screen?

Either the above, or glasses with some ultraviolet protection.
I am wearing a pair of glasses with no power, but with a +400 UV protection. I find this helps in reducing the strain and fatigue on the eyes.
The contrast and brightness settings on my monitor vary, because different background and ambient light require different settings.

It depends on the person. don't keep the monitor that bright due to basically what it is. A good way to avoid eyestrain though, sit a respectable distance from the monitor, far enough you can read everything clearly and can still type. Have some kind of other light on in the room. If you do use the computer in the dark, then that's a good way to get hurt.

My setting is catered to what my eye is accustomed or feel comfortable with. i usually set in on manual settings, i find default settings to bright especially for viewsonic LCDs..
as i work for 12 hours on front of a pc, i see to it to rest my eyes when they got tired by looking at distant objects or i shut my eyes for a couple of minutes or so to avoid dryness and irritation..
my lot's webpage design is quite straining to the eye for me because of its bright white background..

Hi, thank you for the comment.. thats a good idea too to take our eyes away to rest for the while.. as for this site i will adjust my settings all the way down since a white background also allows for easy reading.. just that it may be too bright for the eyes when the brightness is up..

hi philip65! I don't know what is the right settings of the monitor for your eyes because we have a different condition of eye. What i suggest to you is to use a screen filter, because the radiation of the monitor is the one that really hurts our eyes..

Hi Ben.. thank you for the comment.. yes in fact i am also using a screen filter.. im using a laptop and the filter is a piece of transparency, which according to the package is claim to reduce harmful radiation.. tho i still feel that it have made no difference to the view whatsoever.. or is it that the harmful radiation have already been removed just that we will not be able to realise it by vision.. as i find that it still hurts the eyes...

First of all each person has it s own preferences, there are things that are good for other people and bad for other it is just case to case basis. For me i want that the brightness of my computer is bright coz i do not want it top be dim i tried it once that the brightness of my computer is dim and oh my gush after hour and hour spending time in my computer i got a headache. That's why i change the settings of my computer and now i am ok coz normally or usuall i do spend time in my computer for almost 8 hrs. a day so i really need that my computer setting is ok with me.GODBLESS

thanks for sharing dreamkeeper, when im working with a desktop, i tend to face the monitor away from me to avoid the radiation directly on me.. however using a latptop i find thats not very possible and especially if you're using lcd screens.. God Bless You too.
