What would you use your MacBook/iPad for? I also just love Macs, but I haven't tried the iPad so I can't really tell anything about it. All that I can tell is that you should get what you feel comfortable with. If you plan on just surfing, listening to music, watching movies, taking it with you and doing other "light" stuff like that, then I think that you should get an iPad. Of course it has quite a small hard drive, but if you already have an iMac and do all the "heavy" stuff on it, then the iPad should be sufficient for you. Of course a MacBook can do all those things also (surfing the web, watching movies, listening to music etc.), but iPad is just so different with it's touch screen. Both have a quite good battery life (10h of movie watching), so they are both a good choice. If you wouldn't have any computer, then I would tell you to buy the MacBook, because the iPad is still not as good as a computer for doing all the computer stuff, but now when you already have an iMac, I tell you to buy an iPad (or MacBook). It's your own decision though, so you'll have to do the hard work, but I hope that I could help you a little bit deciding.
Also, the iPad is a little bit smaller and lighter than the MacBook, so if you are planning on getting it with you at many places, or just around the house, then I could almost say that it would be better for you than the MacBook.
Keep us posted on what you decide
