Im a long time fan of Alice in Chains. I grew up with the albums "Facelift" and "Dirt" and ofcourse their self titled album. Favorite songs being Godsmack, Hate to feel, We die young, Junkhead ect. The main thing that continued to draw me to their music was the dirty grit that came from the grunge roots mixed with the agressiveness that came from their metal roots.
Alice in chains formed in seattle washinton in 1987 by guitarist and vocalist, Jerry cantrell and lead vocalest Lane Staly. Alice toured and recoreded records until the tragic death of their lead singer Lane in 2002. He died of a Heroine overdose. Alice recruted several singers souch as Phil Anselmo of Pantera and James Hetfield of Metalica before Their newst album with William DuVall Black gives way to blue featuring songs, Check my brain, A looking in view, and Your Dicision.
Now my question to you is what do you think rocks harder, classic Alice with Lane Staly or their new album Black gives way to blue with william Duvall?

Layne Staley is definitely better. Their old songs are amazing. But you got to give the new guy some credit too. When I saw them live 2 years ago they were fantastic. DuVall definitely has a similar voice and performs great live. I don't much care for the new album, but they played the old songs really good.

I definitely prefer the old Alice in Chains lineup. With the late Lane Staley as lead singer. Like you i grew up with songs like Would? , Grind and Rooster. Brings back the old days. I wish grunge will soon surface up once again.
