If you like Tom Hanks then Cast Away is a must see. He carries the movie all by himself. His costar is Wilson, a soccer ball.

Hi,
The movie cast away entirely hinged on the character Tom Hanks played. The movie totally lacked purpose. The first half of the movie is somewhat over-extended and irrelevant. It is Tom Hanks who was the center of attraction there. The most wonderful acting skill ever demonstrated by Tom Hanks was in films like Philadelphia and Forest Gump. There were other movies too, for example Apollo 13, that went good. The movies where he plays a role seem to have him as their centers of gravity. He is just too good to be a super star. He is far above and beyond that. He is a true artist. Thanks

I agree but I think his superstardom comes and goes. One minute he's on top and then nothing for awhile. He was great in The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons. I don't think Castaway was supposed to have a purpose. Maybe it was just another great chick flick. I know it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the input.

for me he is a superstar...in the movie castaway i love the scene in which he cries whn he gets hurt trying to make fire....

I love Tom Hanks' acting too. I've watched a number of his movies like The Terminal, Forrest Gump, Angel and Demons, The Castaway, Catch Me If You Can and the Toy Story series.
Anybody remember Big, that's one of my favorites. Next would be Splash, Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.
You can place Tom Hanks in drama, romance, comedy, and even in children's movies and he would still perform the role exceptionally.

I think Tom Hanks was at his best in cast away.
The panache with which he carried out the role was awesome.I think credit must me given to the script writer and director of the movie for planning and executing such an incredible movie.The emotions that Tom Hanks expresses while he is stranded on the island especially while talking to his ball,Mr. Wilson is simply out of this world.Three cheers for Tom Hanks!!
