Cameroon is the first nation to be knocked out of the tournament. South Africa and Nigeria should be joining it unless a miracle happen. Algeria which had 1 point will need to win against USA and hope than Slovenia can hold off England. Ivory Coast which draw against Portugal will face Brazil in their next match. The only bright spot, Ghana. If results goes against them, we could have only Ghana being the sole African representative in the next round, just like 4 years ago.
What do you think of the performance of the African countries in the world cup?

I think on the whole they haven't been great as other people have said. On the other hand the 'traditional' teams haven't had a great tournament either. I think who qualifies to the next round is going to be very interesting. There are a lot of groups where the outcome could be a surprise.

I think you are spot on with your analysis. Except for Ghana and Ivory Coast most of the rest are either out or almost out of the world cup. I think the African countries have simply not turned up for the party in their continent. Though yesterday Cameroon really gave a go at Denmark, but they were sloppy at moments and Denmark really made them pay for their sloppiness. There were phases when the whole game was shoddy with poor passing and heavy touches by both side of players, but three goals that came along were very good. Rommedahl was a livewire on the right wing for Denmark and was my man of the match yesterday.
Cheers!

Hi Sjlskl,
I was watching this game last night of Cameroon and Denmark. It ended at around 2 am here at my place.
Well I haven't been following all the games but I would say that they have got enormous talent. the Cameroon players's first goal was a blinder. But they seem to be so preoccupied with shoving and pushings.
I can bet on this that if they have somebody to make them realize that technique is what that matters in this fast paced game then probably clearing the initial group stages won't be that difficult.
Nigerians are good too but their defense seems to be nowhere in line.
May I ask who is your favorite this season, who would win it finally?

I think that the African countries have done ok but a lot of the time their indiscipline has let them down. The Nigerian player getting sent off against Greece when they were winning 1 - 0 was totally unforgiveable.
I do not think that Ghana will qualify for the next round because they have to play Germany in the final group game and the Germans need a win to go through while Serbia play Australia.

Hi,
at the first time I think south africa could do more than this. I`m surprise that ghana can perform like this even without essien. but ghana mostly hit goal from penalty.that is not good.
i can`t believe that cameroon is the first team that quit the tournament. I remember that eto was unbelieveable couple years ago, but now it`s powerless.

Well, even though Nigeria, Cameroon don`t go to the second round ( let`s say Ghana, Ivory Coast, the host and Algeria follow), they have shown the world that they have quality, they can compete with great players from Europe and Latin America countries. Ghana and Ivory Coast played brilliantly, even Cristiano Ronaldo got frustrated for not being able to score even one goal (Portugal vs Ivory Coast). It takes a process, of course, for African soccer, but at least the world knows that African countries have some respected players like Drogba, Toure, Essien, etc.
