Hi! I am a waitress for a restaurant and i always hear how being a waitress is a horrible job. My thing is sometimes i make more money an hour than half of the other employees. Even i can make in one week what others will make in bi-weekly pay. Yes there are times where i dont make money at all. but i am proud of being a waitress...What do you think?

For me there's nothing wrong for being a waitress as long as you don't do anything bad or illegal there is no question about it or even in other kind of job.
Being a waitress can be one great way to excel or enhance one person social characteristic and with that experience a person can handle any situation and other stuff it could also help you to be easily pass on some international job opportunity just think that the interviewer is same as your costumer.
My friend is a waitress in a Italian restaurant and I notice that she is good in talking and communication with others and now she is a real state agent, she tried to take the exam and she pass well because of the experience she gain from being a waitress really help her.
I hope you can find great job that may suit you and can depend on the experience you gain from being a waitress too.

That is exactly another reason why i think it is a wonderful job. The way i present myself and the communications skills that i have, i have many people compliment me and say often that i should become a manager. i almost had that position but lost it due to the restaurant closing. Constantly, i am dealing with customer service, people problems, training skills for other workers, etc. it is a really good place to start out and that will throw you in the fire with customers!

XEROEIGHT ( 535 ) Has said it all, just to be focus and know what you're doing.
A friend of my was once a filling stations attendant after we both finished from school, now a manager in that same station, so nothing is wrong either waitress or maid job, its better than nothing, commitment and focus is what you need.

Here are my opinions. As you have said, to be a waitress may bring u enough money. However, the income is not that stable and you should think about your future life. Waitress is an exhausting job and you may feel tired when you are getting older, so i will change my job to a more stable and less tired one. This is just from my sight.

I am actually in college for medical assistant, and later radiography. I kinda think those will be tired to it. but its worth it too. Honestly i used to work in a retail store. With all the pure bending and squating i was doing, i found my self with more aches and pain in my back and legs. You would think that i would have been energized since i was doing a bunch of box lifting bending over which hurt my back squating to restock lower shelves. And not only that he was paying less than minimum wage.7.00 dollars. So i went back to waitressing.I think when you feel good, and having fun and know your doing your job very well being tired would be more of an satisfaction for me because i know i accomplished what i wanted to do, and the money shows!. but you are absolutely correct. dont worry i dont plan on being a waitress all my life!

I think it's great that you like your job. it takes a special kind of person to be a good waitress or waiter. and it sounds like your one of them. It does take some special skills to keep customers happy. I know you also take some guff and it sounds like you know how to handle those types of people.

Yes, be proud of it. Just minimize your expenses, and save a lot of money, then study investing in stocks, and invest in your spare time. Soon you will wake up you're already rich and wealthy. Just be sure to invest like a business owner and not a gambler. Find good companies to invest with.

If you like your job, then you are lucky, and should stay put for at least a while, if you ask me. There are many people with really great jobs who hate their jobs, and I think they are all in a worse position than you.
I did some waitressing when I was younger, and it was fine, but my feet were always hurting from standing and walking so much. So it would not be a very suitable job for me these days either.
But if it works for you: be happy and do not care about what other people think! It is your life and your job, and the most important thing is that you are happy!

I was a waitress all throughout school and I loved it!!!! I made very good money - so much in fact that I tool a pay cut when I got a "real" job that offered benfits. I think that is the only bad thing about being a waitress - most restaurants do not provide any kind of benefit plan for the staff. Other than that - occasionally you have the irate customer to deal with - the one that will not be happy with your service - NO MATTER WHAT... but for the most part it is a great job - with great money earning potential.

Hi Nisha,
This notion is not popular in all countries and among all people. There are countries where social class has a dominant role. People are more interested in superficial luster, than concrete factual base. A job is all about earning money, so one should evaluate a job only with two factors, the amount of hours and energy spent to do the job, and the money that it returns. The designation, place, subordinates, uniform etc etc etc, are all total rubbish. I wonder when the time will come when all of us will be wise enough to respect every kinda job, and interpret them correctly. Thanks
God bless you

I've work as food attendant/waitress in one of the famous restaurant here in our hometown. Our tips is really a centralized thing and that is ok with me. I am not happy with the pay actually but what make me stay in that restaurant is that the place is really fabulous and for me its really a calming scenery after a very hectic work. I've meet people that I've never meet in my regular work before. I've talked to people that I thought I could not talk. Even a hi or hello or just asking their orders would really makes me happy. Especially if they are really famous in your country. Just asking their orders would me so much fine with me.
