Hello grayxenon,
that is wonderful. it takes a of patients to do such most specially in the excel. I am sure there will be a long way for this person who made such drawing. i remember back in the 1996 i believed, to have drawn the Great Icarus in a Microsoft Art since it was really good. i hope companies will see this persons work maybe they will put in a company that makes graphics to the videos.

hehe...that is cool 
from the way that the person is drawing it, i'd say that he's very familiar with Vector Graphics, same as what is used in Adobe Illustrator..
and photoshop & paint is easy to learn dear...try it, you'll be surprised at what you may be able to create in photoshop

i used photoshop myself mainly to edit pictures not to author them out of nothing..hehe
