News has come that there have been at least 46 people killed killed in a mine explosion in China's Henan province, at a mine near Pingdingshan city, Xinhu.
The government in China have said the mine had been operating illegally since its permit ran out on 6 June.
They had cut the power off, but the owners of the mine had managed to find a way to reconnect it; once more greed has ruined so many lives with this dreadful tragedy!!

It’s the same story in most developing countries…with private enterprise and government officials hand in gloves with each other, sharing the spoils at the expense of hapless citizens eager to earn a quick buck, laws full of loopholes, lack of transparency and the willpower to rise above self interest, semi-literate people who are not fully aware of their rights, corruption… human life is so cheap compared to the millions at stake

not to sound harsh, but why does this surprise you?
Greed is the mother of nearly everything that causes us pain. The pain that we endure as a global society is all based on the gain of someone else.
People starve because food is for profit. People go without light because green energy is to expensive to build.
the almighty dollar is killing us slowly and it is incidents like this that show it.

This often happen in my country, Indonesia. There are many illegal mine such us, oil mines, coal mines and mining group C. Even though the government had banned the operation and not issued permits, there are still activity. Even, government had conducted raids on illegal miners. When the mine explode or collapse, they blame government. This is dilemma for the government. If government strictly closed the mining are, the miner will lost their job. In other hand, government want to save the environment and save their life as well. Maybe these problem caused by limited skills and jobs. The government should think and concern about it.

You may call it as greed, but maybe they use it to fix the economy. I guess I should appreciate their efforts to improve the economy. accident is a risk that must be faced in a huge project and that needs to be improved is how to minimize the risk of accidents and also needs to be improved how quickly how to handle accidents.
