I had just hit the ceiling with my daughter about doing her homework. She is 6 years old and currently in kinder 2. I know my daughter is smart but she is just too lazy to work with her school writing activities. To be specific writing activities. She really hates it. Everytime she got homework we would always end up with a fight. She doesn't concentrate on what she is doing and mostly on a rush to go back playing. I tried to be patient but it is not easy with her. I do not have this problem with my boy as he is always eager to do his school tasks. My daughter on the other hand is always last to go after class because she has net yet finished copying what was written on the board.
Please if you have some styles, techniques, advice on how I should deal with this I would definitely welcome those.

Maybe you should do sth to arouse her interest like a comic book or a story book. You may read her a story before sleep and if she is interested in it, she may give more attention to writing or sth else. You may make up some stories about maths and make her addicted to maths. Whatever. Good Luck!

rajaiv oh my have a little pity she is only six years old.Maybe
it is not laziness on her part as you said she is always late
as she had not finished copying what was written on the blackboard.'
now to my elderly mind there is something wrong and she maybe does not
know how to tell you. She maybe dyslexic , unable to figure out the words easily or she maybe just plain near sighted and needs glasses. this often happens with young children. for some reason their sight gets impaired and once the eye doctor checks them and get glasses for them the children just plain blossom. She should be checked for these physical problems by a good doctor. I had a horrible time after having had measles. I was in the third grade and came back to school and could not easily read the words on the blackboard,my grades suffered , and teacher was angry and parents were upset finally I told my teacher I just could not read the black board unless I was up close. I got to an eye doctor, got glasses, could see to copy easily and my grades really went up.

Hi Hatley, it was good that your eyes had been corrected. My daughter's problem in fact is not anything physical. She can see perfectly and hear well. We have in fact a suspicion of ADHD on her. She is going to have a check up soon. Hopefully not that condition and she is just acting like a kid who doesn't want to do school work but only to play with her Disney Princesses dolls. Thanks for your advise Hatley.

children that age need breaks, if she is getting frustrated and not concentrating, maybe a 10 minute break will help.

My daughter doesn't really like to do her homework either. For her, however, I think that the issue may be slightly different. You see, she is well above her level in school, she will be starting second grade in August but two months before the end of her first grade year she was already performing on a beginning of third grade level. So, her homework is just boring to her. What I've decided to do with her is to find things that work to her level and will give her things to do that stretch her but still give some academic experiences.

I think my daughter is also very smart. For the whole year last year all her exams were perfect. One thing which is amazing about her is that sometimes she doesn't listen to her teacher but she can remember what they were learning that day. Hmm maybe I should just try to relax a little bit and be more patient to her. She is also good in math.

If it's specifically writing you might want to look at where she is grade level with her writing. If she is having trouble writing, that might be what is causing resistance to her assignments.
