Well I guess it is Monday, so I can be safe in knowing that these things always seem to happen to me on a Monday, although this has NEVER happened to me before, and it is NEVER going to again!
Today is my weekly shopping day, so I pick my son up from school, and we get to the supermarket... I run round getting all that we need food and household stuff etc... and then get to the checkout. I pack all my bags up, and the Lady tells me how much I owe... so I get my purse out, and go to get my Debit Card out, and "OH MY GOD ITS NOT THERE!!!" such a nightmare situation to be in, and I was so embarrassed, and even more frustrated at not knowing where it has gone... which incidentally I have not yet found, and so have cancelled the card now. So anyway, naturally I had loads of people waiting to get served so they could go off home with their shopping, so they all knew I had nothing to pay with. A supervisor came round and suspended the transaction whilst I phoned my partner, to come home from work and meet me at the supermarket to pay with his card which is for our joint account anyway. He was 15 minutes away by car, and I can tell you now, it was the longest 15 minutes of my life stood there at the end of the checkout, with a trolley load of shopping not able to go anywhere.
SO... fellow My Lot Friends... has anything like this ever happened to you? What was your most embarrassing moment?

Hi Rosie,
I surely can only imagine how difficult it would have been for you to wait with the cart in a crowd. but good thing that help arrived soon for you.
Well, me and my friend once were at this restaurant and after having a hefty meal we fell short for a few bucks. i guess, the waited noticed the alrmed look on our face. But I somehow managed to order something more for consuming time and my friend went off to fetch money. It was raining heavily that day, and we had to getaway on his motorbike for a washout. So both of us weren't with our wallets and cards and cell phones.
That was quite an experience!

hi rosie I know just how embarrassing that is. I had much the same thing happen to me. My husband had given me forty dollars in cash for our grocery shopping. I had laid it on top my bureau until I could finish dressing. He called me to hurry up so without thinking I just grabbedmy p;urse, and ran off to the pickup. oNly when I got to the check out stand did I realize that I had not put the money in my billfold after all. So there I stood with my full cart, my kids at my mons house, and had to wait til my hubby got back with the money. then an amazing thing happen as I went to pay for my food a bell rang at the check out counter, and a voice announced I was the one thousand shopper that eve, and I had won forty dollars. wow The clerk laughed and said too bad we did not know that as I would have rang up your groceries and you could have paid out of the prize., but this way I thought to myself I get to keep that money. lol lol lol.

Sorry to hear that you had such an embarrassing moment but be advised that I work in a supermarket and it's quite common to see things like this, particularly with people who have children as their children see the cards as fun and tend to hide them in their toybox or similar places. I have often seen people who don't have their purse, wallet or card with them when it comes to paying for their shopping and I know most people are genuine and it's embarrassing enough without gossipping about it to the next customer in the queue.
My most embarrassing moment was when I went to a swimming pool with an ex-boyfriend, as he swam out of the large jacuzzi his toe managed to snap the front of my swimming costume and it took me a good few seconds to realise that my chest was on display for all to see and there was a young lifeguard just sat there totally staring at me. I then had to hold my large chest in my hands, get out of the jacuzzi and walk the entire length of the swimming pool to get back to the changing rooms. It certainly was a cringe worthy moment but I was soon back at the swimming pool the following week with a much more secure swimming costume!
Sometimes in life you just have to roll with the punches and get back on with things. I can guarantee that next time you go in the supermarket even if you saw the same supervisor and cashier they wouldn't actually remember how you had forgotten your card the previous week because they would have served another thousand customers since then!

Yeah that is a good point, I guess there are plenty of people who have done it, or maybe even spent over what they actually have. I think it was just so embarrassing because you can feel the other customers eyes on you, thinking you can't afford your shopping. I still can't find the card, and yet I know it will probably just turn up when I least expect it to, but I am keeping my purse very high up now, out of reach of little hands.
As for your swimming costume problem, well I admire the fact that you went back again to the same pool to swim, I'm not sure I would have, well not the following week, maybe perhaps a month after lol! Anyway you probably made that lifeguards day!

I have misplaced my debit card just like you. But fortuneately for me I have the checkbook handy and was able to write a check. But it was the last check in the book so I had to remember to pick up a new one. The debit card showed up 3 days later in the washing machine. Must have stuck it in my pocket while fueling up the car.
Hope your day is getting better.

Thanks, for your response... I have no clue as to where mine has gone, and I did not have my cheque book on me so I was stuck... We do think that my toddler may have hidden it somewhere, since he has been seen taking cards out of my wallet, but I really am not sure... the worst thing is the last time I used it was 3 weeks ago, so it could have been missing since then. One thing is for certain though, I am definitely going to be checking to make sure it is on me next time I go shopping.

Ah, I soo can relate to your situation. Several times I have gone to the store with a few items in mind and got to the checkout counter only to find that my purchases were larger than I thought. I have had to ask them to remove items to get the bill down. Equally embarrassing is having your card declined. It is quite the humbling experience! One that I'm certain no one on this planet enjoys. When these things happen, I feel like I want to crawl right under the floor.
I hope you can find your card.
