Swimmy diapers...?

We got a pool membership this year for my family, and I can't wait to start going. The pool finally opened up this week as schools are just letting out for us. I didn't realize until today that the pool is open, and was thinking of going. But I have a slight problem. My youngest son has not even started potty training yet, so he needs a swimmy diaper, and I'm broke! Those darn swimmy daipers are expensive, like $7-8 for only 10 diapers.. ridiculous! I'm going to go broke trying to take the kids swimming, even though going to the pool itself is free. So I am wondering what you do with an un-potty trained child when going to a public pool? Do you give in and buy the expensive swimmy diapers? Do you have some cheaper alternative? I am thinking of getting some plastic diaper covers or something... maybe those would work... can I put them over a regular diaper, or does he need something else under the plastic pants?

The water will still get inside the plastic pants and into the diaper. Yeah I did break down and buy the swim diaper...

The kids got sick of me waiting to afford the diapers, so we went and just let him go in without any sort of diaper or plastic pants. He's good at telling me he has to potty, but won't actually go in the toilet.. he waits till the second he stands up to go all over himself.. so then I rinse him off and send him back to the pool.. lol. He'll get the hang of it before the end of summer... I hope!

I personally wouldnt use a regular diaper with or without a plastic covering as not only will it swell though it may start falling to pieces too depending I guess on how good the make is. I was really lucky in the fact that my sister had two packs of unopened swim nappies which were my daughters size and so saved a lot. Have you thought of looking somewhere like ebay? I havent personally bought nappies from ebay though have seen swim nappies unopened and new on ebay though it would only work out cheaper if it was pick up only near to you otherwise postage may be more than what they cost in the shops.

That doesn't sound worth the hassle.. all the wasted time trying to find someone nearby selling swimmy diapers, then the wasted gas driving to their home.. it would be cheaper and easier to buy them at the store!

I know many public pools require you to put swim diapers on children who are not potty trained. I wouldn't advise putting a diaper on your child to go in the pool because they will swell up and get really heavy. I have invested in the swim diapers before, but I didn't have a membership to a public pool. Usually one pack would last me a long while. However, maybe you could find some underwear and possibly put the plastic pants over those? I have no idea how well that would work though.

As long as he doesn't poop it should be fine to put regular undies under the plastic pants. Think maybe I'll try that.

You can always put a regular diaper on him under some swim trunks. The diaper will swell up, but at least he won't be pooping in the pool. My son didn't eve go swimming until after he was potty trained and my daughter has never been in a real pool before. I did buy some swim diapers for her when we would play in the hose in the back yard or the little baby pool, but really they don't absorb anything. She peed in one and peed on the concrete back porch one of the only times she had one on.

Yeah, I know they don't work, but the pool is definitely against using regular diapers. That's why I'm thinking maybe plastic pants over the regular diaper, hopefully that would be enough to stop the diaper from absorbing all the pool water..

You might want to call the pool and see what their requirements are. They may have a set rule for such a thing. Then you can decide from there.

I know they don't allow regular diapers. I believe they said either plastic pants or swimmy diapers.. but I'll double check.

We spent something like 25$ on a reusable swim diaper...It was more then well worth the investment, considering how it saved us on the regular swim diapers. That is the course I would recommend. See if any body in your area carries them, if not look into a MLM child shop, such as Discovery Toys, I don't know what other ones there are in the United States, they would generally be your highest quality for the lowest priced ones though, everything in Network Marketing seems to be that way, to me at least. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Well, with my children I actually always did use Little Swimmers for them because they were available (although they were expensive as well.) There are some pools around here that require that all children under three years old wear swimming diapers whether they are potty trained or not. Now, I would never try using a regular diaper under a pair of rubber pants because the diaper will still absorb a lot of water unless the plastic pants are tight and that would be very uncomfortable for your son. I would suggest maybe getting a couple of reusable diapers that are made with a plastic lining attached and maybe use those. Or else, look for coupons for Little Swimmers and use those very sparingly.

Well, here in my country in my state (Chennai), kids aged 5 or more are only allowed. So we need not worry about peeing. Kids by age 3 are potty trained. on parents insistence, pool authorities allow kids only above 3.
