The French malaise seems to be spreading. After really chaotic scenes within the French team, we now have news of in fighting and egos emerging out in the Cameroon team. Alex Song has come out saying that egos within the team cost them a place in the next round. England camp seems to be in a disarray after Terry first claimed a clear the air talks with Capello and then the rest of the team and Capello came out telling that Terry had made a mistake. Football is a team game, but what happened to the good old Team Spirit? Are superstars bigger than their teams now? Cheers! Ram

It really hurts when teams like France and England does these kind of stupid acts. I was so disappointed when there was a brawn in French team. Now a days all the players give preferance to their individual value rather than for the team value. As you say that the good old team spirit has vanished from the minds of the players.

Well, football is a team sport. Put aside your interest, prioritize your team. If a player already speaks to the media about this and that and so on, especially if he criticizes his coach and team in public, it will have bad impact for the team

Yes, I agree, I think paying the footballers these ridiculous amounts of moneys has meant their egos are inflated and they think they are worth much more than they are. The teams should work together and respect their coaches. I have been enjoying watching the African teams as they seem to have it right, like the South Africans today - good teamwork and great fun too. It's good to see a team enjoying it all.

South Africa did show great camaderie and team spirit, but two other African teams Cameroon and Ghana are suffering from huge amount of infighting and huge egos. Cheers! Ram

The main Reason for this is the over emphasis given to club football where players get paid a handsome amount so that they need not care for their international careers . Nowadays very few games are played between nations and that too in the name of friendlies . International football gains importance only once every four years when they need to qualify . Rest of the time it's only club football !! and that too clubs pouring millions of money just to get a single player is altogether crazy !! and that makes people think they are higher than the nation . Paying a person for his footballing skills is altogether fine , but the clubs should think twice on shelling put such a huge amount !! There should be more tournaments and FIFA should make some amendments to make players play in it and impose fines on clubs that don't release players for international duty .

Yes, I agree with you. I think the over emphasis on the club football has to reduce at least a bit. You want to see all the great players at the world cup, but almost every time last 3 world cups, some of the best are injured and either completely or partly miss the world cup. It's a shame. Cheers! it's interesting to me that the players considered as 'troubling' in this post of yours, are in fact; EPL players! yes, that so-called the biggest, greatest, bestest football league in the whole world... of course, they earned a lot of money that they might even consider this tournament only as a holiday break or even holiday breaker... and sorry to say, that nicolas anelka and john terry, are from the same club: a club built instantly by the power of money; chelsea. so, with their glamorous, luxurious life in london, should they be sent so far to the south of africa, down with team spirit! down with nationality!

No players from other leagues are emerging now. Eto'o, Sully Muntari and Abidal are all players from other leagues who are also involved in issues in their respective teams due to ego issues. Cheers! Ram

Cameroon is one of the greatest teams in African soccer and for them to be the 1st country knocked out the world cup it hurts and it hurts badly. Song and Eto have been around for a long time and maybe they should retire and let the younger players get their chance before its too late. Deadwood is of no use to anyone. England, well if egos won a game they would be undefeated except to Portugal(Ronaldo). One needs to back your team and players 100%. You didn't see South Africa come out and curse out their keeper when we was sent off for a challenge against Uruguay or Brazil falling apart. Its time these teams grew up!

Exactly. I mean if you wish that trophy in your hand, you cannot do it alone, you need a squad to work together to win that and for that you need to let go of some of the ego and play with the pride of national duty!! Cheers! Ram

I think that there is too much money in the sport. Players are having it too easy and are like spoilt children when things go against them.

I think then coaches need to be big enough to drop some of these biggies from the team and leave them out of the World Cup. A couple of such instances and all will come to their senses!! Cheers! Ram
