Trying New Things

Well, I'd like to tell you I have taken up water skiing and can now compete with the best of them. But no, the new thing I tried was egg custard pie. Not exactly life changing. I was at lunch with my father yesterday, and he ordered a piece of coconut cream pie (I don't like coconut myself). He told me to order a piece, and I ordered egg custard because it sounded different, and I'd never had it. I really really liked it.
So when is the last time you tried something new? A piece of pie, a new hobby, trying to skip backwards...? Okay, so maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.

I like your discussion.
Does signing up for myLot count as trying a new thing? I signed up about a month ago and I love it here. I never knew of myLot before then. I'm glad I signed up.
But besides myLot, I've tried calligraphy and palmistry a few months back. I've gotten pretty good at calligraphy, but I'm slacking at the palmistry. I should really get back to that book. And I wanted to try learning how to give henna tattoos, but I never bought the book. Maybe I should try that again too!

Now see I don't have all this talent Ambie says I do..Anything that has to do with drawing or writing pretty is out for me...I can't even draw a straight line, but I can walk or dance on one...

You should try calligraphy. It isn't too hard. It takes a lot of practice though, like everything else.
I've heard about the unpleasantness here. I haven't encountered and I hope I never do. I've only found friendly people here and you are one of them. Thanks for the advice.

Skipping backwards?? I do that in a couple dances I do..
Well today I did do something new, I made homemade black raspberry jam. I decided to do this because we have many berries this year and my neighbor told me an easy recipe her grandmother did..Fortunately I mentioned it as I was making it and a mylotter friend went more into detail and I got it done much quicker and it tastes great..(In fact, my son begged me to make berry muffins to go with the jam and now one jar is almost gone..)
So I now have an easy recipe to make jam again and I am excited, because I love jam..:)

Psst! Send me some talent over in my direction! I can't cook for the life of me! And I'll send you some of my calligraphy talent!

Hi, AmbiePam. My husband bought some jalapeno peppers that were not so hot. I am used to eating them very hot an spicy. These ones that he has bought me has reduced the zesty flavor to a spicy but not so hot. I like it. But I love the hot ones much better instead.

Hey Amber! Gee, I don't remember when I tried something new!
I think maybe the last time I did try something new was on
Christmas Day when I had that "nightmare turkey disaster"!
I don't know if you remember my "rancid turkey discussion"
when I had invited my girlfriend for dinner and I made that
turkey that looked sick and had no smell and I was afraid to
eat it because I had made enough turkeys to know that there was
definitely something wrong with that bird and I threw it out
so we all wouldn't get sick! Well, we ended up ordering Chinese
Food (what else could you get on Christmas)? My girlfriend wanted
Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce and I had it before, but wasn't
sure I liked it. So we ordered that and some other dishes and
it turned out that I liked that the best and have been ordering
Chicken with Black Bean Sauce ever since! In fact I got some
Sunday night and will have the rest tonight!

Well just recently I went bungee jumping and took up parachuting....uh, yeah, sure
I love egg custard...every time I have that I think of my great-grandmother as she made that all the time...then I used to make it...even did the "spanish" version of it which is flan--once did a coffee flavored flan...yum
Well as far as trying something new, I'm leaning toward a more vegetarian diet though haven't given up on meat completely but been experimenting on making homemade veggie burgers...they're really good and gosh awful filling...I only need to eat half to fill full--This website has a lot of veggie burger ideas
http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindishentreerecipes/r/BlackBeanBurger.htm
Also the great thing too, they're inexpensive to make

You can't give up meat! I'll never have any more pheasant stories if you do that. : )
I am going skydiving on my next birthday. I have no idea how much it costs, but I'm going to make it happen. I'll do it tandem, because I don't trust myself to pull the chute at the right time. I figure I have had to play it safe long enough, why not go into my 30s in style? lol

hi ambiepam oh I love eggcustard if it has a lot of nutmeg and cinnamon in it its so good., oh so you did not water ski. well neither did I come to think of it. but I had some adobo chicken from my table mate Perla Santos, It was some of the best chicken I had ever eaten. so full'
of flavor and tender and well just really delicious. I had never eaten any Philippine food before, but this was really good. Now the chicken livers and rice,no I did not like that as I learned to hate chicken livers as a child. A lot of farm people think they are great but I just do not like them.Lingon berry pie was another one but this time I just kept from barfing and pretended like crazy that it was good. As a kid I often went with my parents to the swedish church in my hometown in south dakota to the lutefisk festival for the fish and the lingonberry pies and I seemed to like both the fish and the pies. but my adult palate does not seem to care for the pie. I like the lutefisk though as I am a fish lover anyway and fish is so good for you.

Did you ever watch the show Home Improvement? I remember their neighbor Wilson talking about making lutefisk, and how Tim and Jill commented on the smell. Is the smell really that bad? I had a lingonberry piece of pie once, and I believe I liked it. I don't remember the taste, just the surprise that I liked it.
Do you like rhubarb pie? Thr quickest way to gross out my late Papaw was to mention rhubarb pie.

I try new things frequently. I grow tired of the same foods all the time, so I will try new recipes, new foods I've never tried before, or foods I haven't tried in a long time.. things like that.
I also try new work outs, new classes that I may have been afraid to try before because I didn't think I was strong enough or had enough endurance. Turns out I'm really good at them and really like them.
Recently I ate at Panera Bread for the first time.. a local sandwich place. I'd heard it was really good, but had never stepped foot in there. Wow it's so ritzy. It's a fast food place, but when you eat in you get your food on ceramic dishes instead of a tray or plastic or whatever. I got a cuban chicken panini to go, and it was great. The prices are a little steep, but I think it's worth it for the quality of the food.

Last year when my husband arrived from abroad, he introduce to me a lot of things which I don't bother to try on my own. We go scuba diving together and I'm so amazed of the coral reefs and we also tried jetski. We also gone to different asian cuisines, I have tried Korean food, chinese food, thai food and japanese food. All of this because of my husband, he doesn't want me to be ignorant on this stuff. Actually, we have a lot of things piling up when he comes back. I'm looking forward for our next adventure.

Well, I was in the local supermarket the other day and tried their new self-service machines (rather than with cashier).
They are kind of annoying as you had to put the groceries in a particular manner and if the machine went wrong you had to wait for the attendant to help you out.
Good if you have only a few items and in a hurry.
It was a whole new experience !

In my case, it's not happening yet and I'm really excited about it. It's going to be my first time to ride a plane. They say that it's nerve racking for first timers like me. Am really crossing my fingers that the weather won't be harsh on me.

I am sitting here trying really hard to remember the last new thing I tried and I am at a loss which goes to show that I should really learn to step out of the box and be more adventurous! Aside from the beautiful vegetarian pizza my sister got me to try a couple of weeks ago, I can’t think of anything else. Experiencing new things is to be encouraged, you never know the discoveries you can make...
