Is dog breeding a good business?

I love pets and though I can't have a dog now because my apt won't allow it, I have turtles to take care of. I'm planning to go home to the Philippines and stay there for good after 2 years and I'm thinking of starting a small business. Since I love dogs, do you think a dog breeding business would be ok?

I think it is a very fun business, but from what I have heard from some people I know who do it, it is not a very lucrative business. So if you intend to do it just for the money, I would advice against it. It won't make you rich! (I would still do it if I could because I love dogs so much, and puppies are soooo adorable!)

Breeding dogs for a business is not a good idea, specially in Canada.

I've got friends who live of selling dog stuff (toys, food, books etc) or earn quite a lot of money on having dog traning classes (most of them are certified dog trainers). My aunt used to breed dogs and was a dog groomer too, but if you want to do it properly you have quite a lot of investment to do and you'll use a lot of time on it so it's definitly not a way to get rich quick. I've got several friends who've had puppies and sold them, but only one of them is making any serious money on it. But then, she's going to dog shows with her dogs at least once a month, sometimes more. She goes to shows all over the country, uses a lot of time to groom them and train them for the show ring etc. Her dogs usually get a BIS, best puppy and other Best-in on every show she goes to, so the puppies are sold for more than those with "normal" parents without all the prices.

As business, if it is very good to have a breeding-place, but to my particularly I do not like, since one treats the dogs as if they were things, you enrich for the puppies, it is my thought.

Anyone who raises dogs and makes a lot of profit isn't doing it right. Dogs should be bred for the love of the breed and a desire to improve the breed lines, not with profit as a motive.

It's a good business. It also takes time but then again you have two years. If you don't have enough money to start off I suggest you don't do it. Last thing you need is puppies with health problems, that won't sell. Good luck.
