Will your Boss say, "thanks," for a job well done?

Multinational Factory - Factories producing food and food products

I worked for 20 years in a Big American owned Multi-National food manufacturing plant. When I started there were over 1000 employees. I had quite a few different jobs over the years ranging from Janitor, Food mixer and blender, to line operator. During that time I did my best to do a good job for 10 different foremen/women, and never once did anyone of those Bosses ever say "Thanks"! Looking back on it now, perhaps it was because they were just working there too, and didn't feel any moral, or personal gratitude, but I was trying to please my boss just as hard as if he/ she had been the factory owner. I am wondering if there are others out there who have worked for years without ever hearing the word,"Thanks"?

I dont work for a company anymore. I have a daycare in my home. I get a thank you from my parents everyday. When I did work for a company I was not appreciated. Thats why I dont do that anymore. I am like you, I try my best to go over and beyond expectations for the employer. And was given very little appreciation for my work.

I too am self employed now, and I can laugh at those thankless foremen in the factory. Most of them are unemployed now since the company closed about 5 years ago.

Wow, you are a hard one. Congratulation on your independence, though. My boss said thanks and sorry many times, but deep inside I felt that she was not sincere. It was like an obligation to her. She read many books on how to be a tiger in a business, how do you recognize a mafia in a company, and other self motivated books of the kind. So, I guess she read a book on how to please your employees without giving them a raise! Between "no thanks" and "thanks, but..." I would opt for "no thanks" nowadays. As long as I know I did the best for them, it is okay.

Oh!! that was very sad experience. I work in an institution for 16 years and I love my job. I even shed tears when I left because all of them don't want me to leave. They really want my service and I can feel that they still need me. They long for the work that I can do which others maybe can not do the same. I thank them for the good treatment that I had with them and they thank me too for the service I rendered to the institution. I know it is very frustrating when we do our best and nobody ever said THANKS FOR THE GOOD WORK. Just don't worry about it. God will let them feel it someday. Be happy you have done a good job. God sees it.

Well it wasn't that sad! I very soon came to know what to expect. All the foremen wanted was to get the work done so they would be promoted to an easier, higher paying job. Its dog eat dog in a Factory, and may the biggest Dog win!

I always worked for smaller businesses and was often thanked for the job I did. My Hubby worked for NASA and received many awards for the jobs he did, but I don't know if his managers ever thanked him in person.

Yes, I received several rewards (just a piece of paper) one was for coming to work on time, and another was for not missing a day of work in 2 years. Those papers were handed out to those who earned them, and I can't remember now if there was a Thank You printed on the paper.

yes, this is what a boss supposed to do whenever their employee excel their job with a good result. People may seem think thanks is just a word that meaningless, but for me personally it's a great feeling if my job was appeciated by other people, especially if that person said that I have done a great job. It boost up your confident that you can do more than you can even expect to come out of yourselves. That's how important thank you is.

There were no leaders in this factory they were called Foremen. They took their job seriously but expected the employees to do the work. This would have been fine with me except a "thank You" at least once a year would have been nice.

It seems like I am very fortunate for having a boss who always says thank you. He shouts sometimes but he apologizes afterwards and says sorry

Our boss is a perfect opportunist (a mild word, since I think of a stronger term) he can be OTT ingratiating when he feels like it or with people who are in important positions in the organization. For down the level ordinary workers like us, who do all the slogging and dirty work, he only barks orders and expects us to fall in line…’thanks’ for us doesn’t exist in his lexicon.

Sounds not good to me. In the company that I'm working right now, the bosses appreciates the work done by their employees. They say thanks and even rewarded employees for a job well done. They even replied in email with just " GOOD WORK!!!" which is very uplifting to the person who did the good job.

i also feel more fortunate than you. i worked with different people in the past. in two of those companies, i was able to mingle with the top Bosses, the owners. and not only once that i heard them the "thank you neil". even in this office i am working now, i hear not only once that my boss thanking me for doing this and that. well, even in the bible, the Lord only needs to be appreciated and thanked. it's all that we can do to reciprocate the blessings we receive from the Almighty.

Hey buddy!! Well boss will be boss. He will never appreciate your work much and hardly say a word like"thanks" to their workers. They just have a mentality that they are just superior to all of his employees. Although there are some exceptions but most of them wont say thanks to you ever, no matter if you even die for them.

i have been a nurse for almost 3 years now and as much as possible i give my patients quality service.i have patients that says thank you for the love and care that i have given them but there are also terrible patients and watchers who cant even say thank you instead they will humiliate you in front of many people. that was the first time it happen to me. they were so unrespectful despite of what i have done for them. i want to file a case against them because they accused me of stealing their dextose (Intravenous fluids). they thought that nurses are just maids in the hospital, but they are so totally wrong.nurses are professionals and i can file a case against them because i have evidences that i did not steal. i found out that they are just sales staffs in a mall's hardware(NCCC Davao). instead of having pity for them, but they provoked me to give them what is for them.i have my grandfather as my lawyer and my father and uncles as my investigators. they are so wrong in pointing a finger on me because i am a good person but when someone humiliate me, that is something i will not allow.i reported it to our superior but she just told me to forgive them.

Wwll i am still a college student and i just heard thanks a few times from the teacher i like the most. Some other hardly do it thinking that they have prestige and what not more. My dad quit his job for the same reason that his work was never appreciated when he was at work. Whenever he madea presentation and gave it he was not thanked and he's not getting the promotion he deserved. So he quit his job and is now working at a better company.

I have been working for years, and fortunately i have a good boss. My boss always say "thanks" or "good job, thanks" if i properly done the task he assigned me. Maybe some "bossy people" have a thought "it is your job, just do it, and no need to expect a thanks". It's a pity since it is not difficult to say thanks to other people who have really been of some helps, and they will not lost anything either, so why not to say thanks.

barehugs I worked for many years about twelve or more as a nurses aide and yes I did get thanks from the nurses I worked with in different hospitals as i worked from a nurses registry. So I was pleased that I was appreciated as a nurses aide at all these different hospitals.then for 23 years I worked in t he Tustin Library and had a lot of thanks given to me by mostly patrons but the branch manager did praise me as she fired me the two faced biat@h but it backfired on her. Headquarters ofthe library system fired her and the bit@h who was her assistant. but although i was reinstated I could not go back for the simple I had broken my left shoulder and had to have a joint replacement done.

that is very sad barehugs. i dont recall but one place that never thanked me and thats because i had a very strict supervisor when cleaning at the holiday inn in concord, california. every place else i ever worked, not only thanked me but offered me top placement of the employees. sometimes i think thats why its so hard to just sit from disability. like i do now. it can make you very depressed and i always thought id enjoy relaxing after retiring

Some people say "thank you" just as habit... I really think it's wise for them to say"Thank you" even though they don't think so... I'm from China.Never heard any boss say thank you to me...
