Don't Think About Money At This Time

This is what the doctor told me when I asked her how much will I need to raise for the operation of my son, if ever it is really necessary to remove his tonsils. I just wanted to make sure that when time comes, I will be ready (or my wallet is ready. lol)
Anyway, for those who are following my son's sleep apnea problem, I wanted you to know that so far, he is getting better. He still snores but lesser than before, and more quiet now when he sleeps.
And in our last check-up, the doctor advised us to stop giving him all the medicines he had been taking for the last six months. Unfortunately, he now takes a different set of medicines.
We will be coming back to the same doctor this Saturday for a follow-up check-up.
Now for our discussion, have you come across a doctor who never tells you not think about the money you will need, if an operation is needed? Or your doctor told you ahead of time?
Have you been in any medical operation before? What made you undergone that operation?

Just the opposite, I had one doctor's office move me from one facility to another, because my insurance had better coverage with the second place. Nobody has ever told me not to worry about payment.

I am glad your son is better & hope he continues to improve every day, Doctors around here in my opinion are all about the money. The oath they take doesn't mean anything to them if u don't have money or insurance, Insurance is a rip-off to. I have had a couple of serious surgeries. I had a brain anneurysm 10 years ago & they did surgery to repair it. I'm very blessed to be here & be as well as i am. Five years ago i had to have carotid surgery after i had a stroke,

some medical practitioners here are also just after the money they will earn from their patients. some even just advice to do the operation just like that but some, if you will only look for a second opinion, as they say, will not really take the last resort at once. and i am happy that we have found the second opinion with this doctor who tries a lot of remedies, for us not to spend too much and also look at the best possible way not to jump into an operation.

i guess they are but not all of them. just like here, there are some not trustworthy medical practitioners but not all of them are bad or all of them are good.

I had stomach surgery in January for reflux/heartburn. I underwent the operation because I couldn't live with the reflux and heartburn. My insurance fully covered it. I am so glad for that because I never would have been able to cover it on my own.

I just recently went in to my doctor's office to pay my bill. I usually mail it in but I needed to do something so I went in. I asked if I could schedule to see my doctor next month. She asked me what was wrong and I told her I needed to get back on my anti-depressant meds and how I have been feelings. SHe said she could get me in in a half an hour. That I should never worry about the money.
As far as the operation I have been in for a mamiogram and before that a gall bladder. They usually don't know for sure it is going to be. There is a lot of factors that go into it. I was having such pain I had to have the surgery to remove my gall bladder.

i feel sorry to hear what you had experienced. i know how it feels to experience an operation. and that is one thing i hate to think with my little kid. though the professionals know what to do, we cannot help to think how our kid will be in pain after the operation. lucky are those in the countries with better health programs than we have. they don't think about the cost of operation because they can get it for free.

Thanks. I would try to think of this as your child could be alot worse off. There will pain for a time but then your child will be better for it. Yes, it would be nice to have better health care.

We never encountered such a doctor! And I just wow-ed~ Well, that's really helpful for parents to lessen up stresses or whatever it is that will bother them.
For the same reason, my little brother's tonsils were removed. But ahead of time, the doctor already told my mom to prepare a certain amount of money.
I really hope a lot of doctors will be the same, though, preparing is also good.

Seriously? The doctor told you that? Then maybe he is giving your son a special price, if not a free surgery.
Am sure have known a few doctors who do not ask for pay and give free surgery. They are either Missionary Doctors or developmental workers. But commercial doctors, I haven't heard someone who doesn't price their service. Am sure there are doctors like that; but they are rare to find.
I guess it is wiser to be prepared financially as this may somehow give you a peace of mind in terms of monetary concern. So asking the doctor for an estimate expenses for the operation is the best thing to do to prepare. If he says don't think of the money yet, make it very clear to him that you have to be financially prepared for this. Unless he clearly tells you that he will give you a very big discount for the operation. If he does, then you don't have to think of money that much =D.
Glad your son's condition is improving - nothing is better than knowing that our loved ones are okay =D.

i don't think she will give or do the operation for free, i am sure about that. maybe, she said that for us not to worry that the operation will really have to be done. she is thinking that the tonsils will shrink in time and so the airways will become wider.

About the price of an operation the doctor do not tells us what will be or how much we will spend in an operation. We go to the right person in the hospital to ask this things. Mostly they are the senior doctors there. If a doctor will tell me to do not think of money I will be really confius. Merely because I have to think of money for an operation. An operation will not push through without a money, or maybe that doctor is kind and he is concern on my condition. Money is always talked about whenever I am in the hospital.

but even if our doctor will not be the one who will do the operation, i think she have at least an idea how much the surgeon, the hospital bills and other doctors who will be involved in the operation will cost.

Only someone who has no money worries woudl tell you not to worry about it. You doctor will have a fee, the other doctors involved will have fees and will the hostipal or clinic where the operation is preformed. All of these fees should be pretty standard and you should be able to come close to the amounts needed.

exactly why i thought of asking the doctor how much will i need when the operation will be conducted, if ever. there is no such thing as free, here in this place.

I think that it is very easy for a doctor to tell you not to worry about money; it’s not as if he is not going to charge! It is always a concern how much operations are going to cost and, sadly although health is more precious than cash, finances are a concern for a lot of us when there is sickness. I am so glad to read that your son is doing better; an improvement is always great news. I had an operation to my nose to repair a deviated septum a few years ago and I’ve had two laparoscopies due to fertility issues about ten years ago. We had private health insurance back then, these days we would have to go on the public hospital list, wait and hope we don’t die before our turn comes! Hope your son keeps improving!

hello neil,
I hope for the best for zay2,is there no other option than that operation?
I know doctor's knows best when it comes to our health.
But,sometimes, there could be another alternative cure for some illness to avoid operation.
In case of life and emergency, money doesn't matter at all.
Just give your son the best for his welfare.
God will provide all source when we are in trouble, just hold on my dear brother.
Sometimes,God is waiting for us to beg, don't get tired of asking,He will give you the answer.
There is always a good reason for each trial and problem, you will soon find about it.
Let's hope and pray for zayzay's recovery

i know that my dear friend and we are not losing hope and that He will answer our prayers. the operation will be the last resort, i guess. and in so far as the check-ups the doctor is doing, we or she still set aside the operation, as of this moment. i just thought i might get a certain figure when i asked her about the cost of operation. but if zayzay gets more older, we are still hopeful that the tonsils will shrink, even just a little bit, to make his airway bigger.

Hello Neildc,
I never had an operation before that bad except circumcision . but never in those kind of sickness. my dad got a galbladder operation, my mom had hospitalized for fatigue problems, my sister in laws were hospitalized too but i believe my other SIL is going for operation for even more complicated disease.they always had medical insurance but one thing they hate is when the doctor tells them to stay

No, I don't but my uncle did. Since he have health insurance, the doctor never told him about the cost for operation including for hospital service. My uncle only sign up on the bill and they take over all. It's was very easy. Usually, for the patient who don't have health insurance, the doctor or hospital management will tell the patient or patient's family cost for the operation.

well, actually there is also available health benefits for the employees, through the government's health insurance. but it is not enough for the coverage of the whole hospitalization and operation and also the doctor and other professional fees. so i still have to raise some money when time comes.

It almost the same most of the doctors says when you are talking to them and they will give advise or tell you what you will gonna do.They will brief you that do this and do that but at the back of your mind you are thinking the cost. And the doctor do not think about the money lol thats rediculous coz whether you like or not in the end you will have to think the money so that you can pay the bills. The doctor will say do not think the money coz they want you to pursue the operation or the medication.

Hi Neil,
That is good news that your son is a lot better now and your doctor says not to worry about the money, here, we ndon't have to worry about not having enough money for any operations as its free, not really free but we pay our National Insurance straight from our salary, so when we do need any medicals we don't have to find the money. The only operation I have had was to remove my tonsils many years ago. Hugs.
Tamara

this is one thing i like with other countries, like in the UK and Canada with a very great medical and health program. this is one thing i dreamed for the Philippines and hopefully, the new government leaders will take a very serious move on this.
