Oregano, Sage and Garlic are popular seasonings, but did you know they also help your health? Oregano kills off microorganisms like E.coli. Add oregano to a veggie burger, chicken or a salmon steak before grilling and it will stop production of a cancer-causing chemical called malondialdehyde in both the grilled foods and in the people who eat them. Garlic may help reduce your LDL cholesterol (that's your bad cholesterol) and garlic can also decrease inflammation in your body, which protects your artery walls and lowers your cancer risk. Sage defends your cells against "rusting", which is a kind of oxidative damage that can lead to cancer, heart disease and more. What are some other herbs that you regularly use, not only for seasonings but for their health benefits?

Hi rowantree! Thanks for this topic. Thank you too to everyone who has shared lots of info here. I'm learning a lot and I want to share too! I crush my ginger and have them boiled. I use this water for my morning coffee and add them to our food and soup. I believe ginger is an excellent antioxidant herb, acts as a mild stimulant and promotes circulation. Among others it is also used against flatulence and indigestion.

Hi! I was just watching Rachel Ray and she was talking about one of her relatives always keeping crystallized ginger and they would eat it like candy. Thanks for the info about it!

We use tons of garlic here... once upon a time Dr Oz said cinnamon was good for diabetics...

Thank you so very much for this information. very good things to know. I really don't have any additional herbs to add, but I would like to mention some other ways I use garlic and sage. I eat a little raw garlic whenever I feel the start of a cold since I have heard it has natural antibiotic and anti viral properties. When I get a cough I boil a small pot of water, when the water reaches boiling point, I turn off the heat and add 5 sage leaves. After about five minutes I take out the sage leaves. Then I add a heaping tablespoon of honey. I drink this like a tea. It is pleasant tasting and has helped many a cough.

Garlic is a popular herb widely used in my country.On desk,we often use garlic as delicious dish.It tasted good.Another,it is good to our health,the garlic without cooking can destroy the virus in our body.

I use ginger as a flavouring and it also has health attributes - eases clod symptoms, cramps and travel sickness. I also drink green tea which helps with digestive and respitory infections and also protcts against cancer and heart diseases.

I've never tried ginger but I've heard that it helps with tummy troubles. I love drinking green tea & candles that are scented with it smell so good!

ok these are not herb but trees but i think they are some of the most usefull for health, one is the Tea Tree, which is a great dissenfectant, kill microbes, skin fungus, help to clear acne and skin problems, really helps to heal open wounds and help to clear scars, in overall is is great for any wound, infection, skin problems and fungi, and many other problems, it is very usefull to have in your home medikit, in fat i think it is a must have for those that dont relly only on farmaceuticals, you can buy essential oil of Tea Tree online or at your local herb store.

also another usefull tree extract for your home medikit is the Eucalyptus tree, its is very usefull for flu and lung problems, kinda like a vaporub, but very effective, also is great combined with honey to help soar throughts, and clogged nose, u can aslo find a essential oil extract of this online or at you loal herb store, ou can dilute this in any kind of vegetable oil for a more delicate skin use, like for small children for example, for baby´s only use 3 or 3 drops in 1/4 litre of baby oil to clear their respiratory system forgive me spelling, i m from mexico :P

I know the advantage of eating garlic. It seems that it can prevent you to have the cancer. But I don't know the advantages of eating oregano and sage. Thanks for sharing us. I love China
