Netbook is very cheap laptop(Apple has $200 netbook) which is dedicated only for Internet and very basic use, sometimes the same size as the normal laptop .It's called netbook because you having no difficulty surfing the internet. Notebook is small but sometimes better than netbook, not just design for Internet.

I see the price on Amazon, which is about $230 like one month ago.I just think that Apple netbook can only do some very basic stuff like Internet surfing,it's on a discount at that time with the original price like $300.I paid about $800 for my Lenovo laptop and feel very satisfied. It's pretty fast and I have Win7 new experience so price and brand is not always the problem.

Hi Nixxi, i believe we have all the same responses, netbooks usually come in small package from 6 inches to 10 inches, netbooks have lesser weight than laptops, and they have more battery life. So the question is why is it smaller, lighter and with more battery life...so how come they are smaller than laptops, netbooks are optimized for surfing the internet, the motherboard designs are simpler for doing the task of surfing, they have smaller processors, usually from 1.6ghz to 1.8 ghz. (w/c means it consumes lesser battery) the netbooks dont have DVD player/writers adding more battery life. although netbook design varies netbook will have a hard time playing with with the latest game releases, so depending of what your purpose of having a netbook or laptop, a net book comes in handy for an all around carry bag due to its light weight, cheaper price tag, but it is still upgradable to a external DVD writer.

It not limited to surfing, it can run software too but is limited to light ones, I have an ACER netbook and the most interesting part is that i can bring it anywhere, easy to carry.

First, let us start differentiating them with regards to their physical size. Normally, a laptop’s dimensions would vary from 10x8 inches (13” display) to 15x11inches (17” display) and up. Its thickness would range from 0.7-1.5 inches. It would weigh 3 to 12 pounds (1.4 to 5.4 kg) depending on its brand and model. Older models usually weigh heavier and possess wider dimensions. Netbooks, on the other hand have dimensions that would range below 5 inches to 13 inches. It is lighter compared to laptops because it usually weighs 2 to 3 pounds. For mobility’s sake, netbooks got the score. In terms of features, Netbooks have built in WiFi, Ethernet, USB ports and slots dedicated for memory cards. However, it does not have a CD drive or DVD drive. This is the reason why it’s relatively smaller and lighter compared to laptops. All of its peripheral devices are external and can only be connected via the USB port. Laptops, on the other hand have all of its peripheral devices intact. Newer versions of laptops also possess built in WiFi, USB ports, memory card slots, Ethernet, Bluetooth SD Card connectivity, built in webcam plus a lot more of features that a conventional netbook can’t support. Next in line, is with regards to its computing power. Netbooks available today, have processor speed that would range from 0.4 to 1.6 GHz and a storage size that would vary from 4 to 160 GB. Its RAM has a capability to process 0.5 to 1.5 GB of information depending on its model type. While laptops, have a processing speed of 1.6-2.4 GHz and a massive storage size which would vary from 20-250 GB of hard drive. Its RAM would range from 1 to 4 GB depending on the model. Obviously, laptops are capable to handle heavy applications such as video editing and hard core gaming. Netbooks on the other hand is ideal for accessing web applications, cloud computing, and Word processing applications. In practice, there is no clear definition as to what are the price boundaries of these two products. This is due to the computer companies’ freedom to state the prices of their products. However in standards, the ideal price of netbooks would range from $200 up to $500. Anything above $500 should be identified as a laptop.

Netbooks are made for convient internet browsing. Notebooks are more for recording down data from observations and are often lighter.

Netbooks are strictly more for browsing the Internet than anything else. These type of computers don't have CD or DVR drives in them and are considerably cheap... $400 or less. The most popular brand that I see around is Acer. I know a lot of people with those. Notebooks are bigger computers that are capable of doing a lot more. They are similar to traditional laptops, but more advanced and with more features. I would recommend a notebook over a netbook anyday.

Well its not that hard a comparison.Almost everyone, while reading your discussion will figure out that both of then aren't the same thing. A laptop (also called a notebook) is computer which has been designed to be made portable, featuring a screen hinged to a keyboard. A laptop includes a battery for portable power and a touchpad instead of a mouse for input. Mini laptops (also called a netbook, subnotebook or ultraportables) take these ideas further still, creating a new market above handheld computers, smartphones and personal digital assistants. The primary characteristic of these are smaller size and weight, which are pretty similar to the average diary, as well as costing less than a standard laptop with prices starting at around 12000, an excellent solution during the credit crunch! Mini laptops aren't as powerful as bigger notebook computers, and lack the power for big, demanding programs as well as an optical disc drive - so no CDs or DVDs. None the less, connectivity is a central focus for netbooks. Internet downloads are quickly catching up on hard media products, so perhaps it's not such a loss.In short, the difference between laptop and netbook is a netbook is smaller, lighter, cheaper (on the whole) and simpler. So in simple words Netbooks are not true notebooks. While netbooks will take you onto the Internet, they won't replace notebook computers, since they lack the processing power to create media and handle advanced graphics and video —and they will not allow you to multitask. Netbooks are low-cost and highly portable, but they're designed for one task at a time. I hope i've made myself clear and that my response will be helpfull to you. Happy myloting.

netbooks: slower processors for battery storage, fit for internet so the name "net"book... notebooks on the other hand have faster processors and can do more tasks faster so it's good for somehow heavyduty programs like photoshop and programming
