Imaginary Friend, have you ever had one?

Have you ever had an imaginary friend? Me and my 2 real friends shared the same imaginary friend that we created together. He was like the coolest dude ever. His name was just "J.", he was in his early twenties, he could jump so far up he could touch the ceiling in my room (well I can do that now but when I was little, it seemed incredible). He usually came to us through a hidden elevator in a closet when we were indoors or jumped from a helicopter when we were outdoors. He went everywhere with us and we always played together. We even played football with him(bouncing ball of a tree would be giving him a ball). I was never imagining J. while I was alone but I was always talking about him as he was a real person. Even my sister, mom and other friends pretended he was real. I think some of them were even jealous lol. I stopped with this when I was around 9 years old. What about you? Did you have an imaginary friend? Tell me about him/her

No I never had and imaginary friend. However, my daughter did when she was about 2 years old. Her name was Easy and I would set the table and actually set a place for her imaginary friend. She would tell me you are stepping on Easy. It was so cute while it lasted. My daughter stopped talking about Easy when her sister was born.

My daughter used to have imaginary friends, too. I don't recall their names but she had actual names for them and would insist that they didn't want to eat peas so she didn't want to eat peas, the whole bit. I thought it was so cute!

Having an imaginary friend is pretty common, so I think the "had imaginary friend" camp is the same size as the other one.

Even today I have an imaginary friend, he is 25 years old, average body, very intelligent and he is always with me, always near me though to support me to tell me what he thinks or not. It is wonderful as how far we can have imagination and we should be strong also to differentiate between the real to the unreal.

It's cool you stile have imaginary friend. So when did you start imagining him? Does anybody knows about that?

Alright. I can't imagine the state of mind where the distance between the two would disappear.

He is my friend since I was some eleven years old and I still keep a distance from the real to the unreal.

I never had imaginary friends. If I ever have one I think it would scare the hell out my parents and friends. Imaginary friends are not common scene in our country, which is so superstitious. If one were to act as if they have an imaginary friend faith healers would come knocking on your door and volunteer to cast out the devil in you or in your sorroundings

I cannot say that I ever had an "imaginary friend", although I always had a very big fantasy life. I used to have a total imaginary life separate from the pain of reality. In my fantasy world, I was always loved and never had trouble speaking to people or finding a date for the prom. In real life I never dated, didn't really have many friends and was picked on at school...and I NEVER went to Prom. When my daughter was born I lost that ability, maybe because I lost the ability to hope for the future or maybe because I blamed my fantasy world for betraying me in reality. Either way, I started insisting that I live in reality all the time and now I cannot trust myself enough to dream anymore so I don't. I don't know if that's sad or just practical but either way it's the way it is.

I really don't see how daydreaming could be bad. I used to daydream a lot but through time it became less about me and daily struggles as I started imagining fantasy stories with fictional characters and everything. I'm still doing it. The main story is pretty epic and it's going on for about 5 years now and I always continue from the point where it left of. It's like a TV series to me. Maybe i should turn it into a book haha And what's up with Americans making such a big deal out of a prom? At my school no one from the cool crowd went to the prom. We just ignored it and went drinking instead. Even the girls.

lol...oh, yay...yeah, drinking is so cool. NOT. The point of prom was that it was sort of a rite of passage for some of us. But to not get asked was kind of like the ultimate shaft for a girl. Anyway, it's too late for this old fogey now.

I've seen the movies. I didn't know if it's true or not but they always talk about a prom like it's one of the most important nights in one's life lol Here where I live it's kinda different. There's no asking out or pairing. Everybody just dress nice and hang out and dance together. They keep exchanging partners and until the end of the night, everyone danced with everyone. No great pressure, no fear of rejection.

That is really different to hear this. And is very peculiar that your friends share the fantasy. Didn't your parents worried about this imagination? How did they enjoyed it? I think they should have worried a lot as it would be a mental problem. For me, I have no imaginary friends like that.

I wouldn't say it's the mental problem or that it's harmful or anything. It was more like a child play for me. I don't know about their parents but mine were ok with it. Or at least pretended to be.

This topic caught my attention! Yeah I do have my own imaginary friend. And this imaginary friend always comes during hard times- days when I feel so lonely or just don't have someone to talk to. We always share the same experiences and HE always listens to all my problems and dilemmas in life. He never talk back against me, instead he gives advices to make me feel better. This is the first time that I shared my story of my imaginary friend. I am afraid that when I will start talking this story to any of my friend, they will immediately think that I am crazy or weird. I kept this experiences for many years and I am happy that I was able to share it with you.

You know how when you're a kid you can play and pretend you're talking to somebody or fighting against imaginary enemies and don't feel stupid? The imaginary friend pretty much works the same way

He always bothering me and taught me to do bad things. But i just ignored it because i love god Well, anyway i'm pretty sure this is not the imaginary thing you mean to say, or maybe this is just a bad conscience from the back of my mine.LOL! I had two at the time, an apple and a banana. I'm pretty sure they were cartoons from some yogurt commercial. I don't remember anything I did with them, though.
