I think my biggest phobia is driving a car because whenever I tried that I feel that its running so fast that it is out of my control though I know I can drive slow also but I dont like slow , second is water means earlier I cant swim as I had the phobia with that but now after learning swimming I am fine.

Hi rastogisw: When I try to drive a car it was too late for me I think, I was 18 years old while my brother start learning since he was like 14 years old and it scares me a little bit but now I don't want to learn to drive because it's not good for the environment that people buy more and more cars. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I have a phobia, maybe not a fear, and not a big one. The phobia is about kidney beans. Since I found a worm in a kidney beans when I helped my grandmother with washing them, I havn't eat any till now. When I had a kidney bean in my mouth, I felt like a worm and got sick. That's my phobia.

Hi qianyun: I think that your answer illustrate the situation of the majority of phobias. People have phobias and fears to something because of a previous experience like in your case. Some of them happend in people's childhood and they still with us after the years. In some other cases people have fears because their parents teach them that they have to fear to this particular situation. For example if your mother was afraid to cockroaches you may have this fear too. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I used to have a fear of spiders, which translated into anything with six or more legs, including yummy seafood like lobster, crabs and shrimp. One day I noticed my children were exhibiting my fears and entering a world to which I did not want them subjected. With tremendous determination and a whole lot of palsied shaking, I got over it. I went from a woman who could jump all the way across a room in a single bound (from a sitting position), when my brother saw a spider on the lampshade beside me, to a woman able to hide the creepy crawly feeling under her skin at the sight of one of the little beasts. Where before, to get seafood, my husband had to either go to a seafood restaurant (without me), he now has a wife who can handle lobster, crab and shrimp with seeming ease. Frankly, inside I still break into a cold sweat, but heither he nor my kids will ever see it. One day I hope to get rid of the weird skin crawl, etc., but for now, I'm thrilled to have come as far as I have. It's only taken 62 years!

I also had a fear of spiders but I could see my daughter was getting the same phobia and I managed to overcome it, so now I don't mind spiders at all.

I have a few fears. One is heights and the other is driving. I didn't learn to drive till I was 50 and then I drove for almost a year but I was constantly scared behind the wheel. So I gave it up because I was afraid of causing an accident due to the fear that I had. As for the height I just can't look over or lean over when I'm standing high above, like on a bridge or balcony. Its just to scary for me.

I'm phobic of heights and driving too. I get vertigo and have to walk in the middle of bridges and not near the edge. I am 40 and have never had a driving lesson, nor do I want to!

Hi karen & lelin! Add me to the "non-drivers club"! I also don't drive and even when I turned 50 I knew that was never going to happen. But, many years ago when I was with my ex-fiancee' he had a small boat and I had no problem driving that! And you really have to be even more careful in the water because there is no way to "put on the brakes" and get an 18 foot boat to stop instantly!

Well I thought when I turned 50 it was time for me to learn to drive. I learned but the fear overtakes me. I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this fear. If only I could be the only one on the road then it would be ok for me.

Hi sreetama: In my case I think I have studyphilia- I enjoy studying because I don't feel this kind of tenssion. In mjy opinion, when you are studying you need to feel the excitement that represent this activity and the fact that you are learning something new that is also good for you. I'm sorry that you don't find this kind of excitement, maybe it's because you haven't found your own way to study. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

Hi stephie qualsgrr: I agree with you that fears are on our mind, they distort things so we have to fight our fears to be free but at the same time I think that people have their fragilities, there's at least a situation where you would feel blocked and you can be completely rational. That's a fear. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I guess my fear would be of worms. The way they wiggle when they move just scare me so much. One time my brother was out in the backyard and he held a warm in his hand. Then he held the worm up to my face and I got so scared that I started crying. Haha....I just looked it up. A fear of worms is called Scoleciphobia.

It's the general fear of travelling---whether by bus, boat, or plane. My highest phobia though is travelling by plane or boat but when I also travel by land I get all sorts of negative thoughts too. Travelling places is definitely not for me.

I do am afraid of certain things. snakes. Yes. the very name shatters me. whether venomous or otherwise I cannot just think of it. They often disturb me in dreams. I dare not look at them in televisions too. I am even afraid of touching a snake picture. What kind of phobia is this? any special significance attached to it?

I am most afraid of the animals are snakes and worms. I can not imagine if bitten by a snake seokar, let alone a very vicious like a snake venom cobra. Another animal that I fear is worms. Perhaps more appropriate is not fear, but disgust. I can not stand when you see the feathers and I hate to see caterpillars

Thanks for this post. My two greatest fears are HEIGHTS and SNAKES. There are some instances that I'm not afraid of heights due to some certain factors. Snakes on the other hand, just typing the names gives me a weird feeling. If I see one in pictures and on TV, I always get the creeps. :-/

I have a phobia of worms and caterpillars. I find them disgusting and if I see one, I become shocked. It's in connection with one memory from my childhood, when I was in the garden and a caterpillar fell onto me, and then it clambered under my T-shirt. I was yelling and shouting until somehow I managed to get rid of this creature. And from this time, I have a phobia of worms and caterpillars...

You know how when you get on a roller coaster and when it hits 60+ mp/h going down a hill, you try to stop yourself but you are being pushed back in your seat? That is the biggest fear I have. Uncontrollable speed.

Methinks you should be afraid of killing lizards. They are but poor defenceless creatures, much smaller than you and defenceless. Killing annoying or germ laden bugs and vermin is one thing but killing creatures that are more afraid of you is not a good thing...ever heard of karma?? As for me, I suffer from vertigo and claustrophobia. I also have a fear of being alone in a crowd of people.

I get really scared everytime we park our car in a mall's or any establishment's basement parking or any enclosed parking area. I feel like running out of air and just wanted to hurry to get into inside a mall or building.

All of us have a fear to animals, people or anything. Most of the time I scared from many cockroaches. It feels like all my hair stand out every time I see them a lot. I also have fear in snake. I always encounter snakes in our home during my school days. It very hard to find people willing to kill that snake.

Hello Crazy_Poster!! First of all i want to thank you for making me the best response in one of your discussion, i really appreciate it. For me, what i fear is cockroach because cockroach has a really scary look. Their like the aliens in the movie men in black and what i scared much more about cockroach is when i saw one flying, it really makes me panic and to run because of scared. But the most i really fear of is to die not getting prepared. That's it, thank you and God bless..
