Is it really better to learn from experience? Including bad ones?

I've heard a lot of people saying, "It's better to learn from experience" and that the best lessons in life are learned from experiences (I totally agree in this). But, what if those experiences were the result of our disobedience? I mean, when we're already told not to do this or that, yet we still go on with what we like and in the end what we only get is failure and we're like, "Ah, I should have listened to them", is it still better this way to learn things??? Share your thoughts MyLotters. :)

it is always better to have a first-hand experience on good things..but for bad things..it's always better to have an indirect experience..you can learn lessons from other people indirectly..you don't necessarily need to experience it first-hand..sometimes we already know what will happen if we do something bad..but then we still choose to do it just because we want to experience the thrill of doing it..well think about it..do you think it is still enjoyable once you've hurt another person in the process including your family?

Yeah, you're right. That's scary, you know, to hurt your loved ones just because you wanna experiment on something you most likely know what the outcome would already be. Thanks! Happy MyLotting!

it is and i myself don't want to hurt the people i love just because i want to experiment and i also want my future kids to be like me someday..if everyone would do the same..don't you think life on earth would be more peaceful?

As they say "experience is the best teacher"...we should learn from our experience because it helps us to avoid doing the same mistakes. This helps us to grow maturely and wisely. It also strengthen us to face challenges.

But, what if we already know that doing such thing is wrong yet we still indulge in it? Would it still be a good thing?

Skills are best learned by experience. Just like cooking pasta. By experience, you'll know when it's "el dente". You learn when the consistency of the sauce is enough to coat the pasta well. Sadly, sometimes, it goes same with life. You learn things if you experience them yourselves. You learn and remember well because you know how it felt every second you're in that situation. True that you could have just stayed away from it so as not to get hurt but it seems that most of us would like to get hurt first before understanding and realizing too late that we should have just walked away from it.

I love pasta! lol People can be really careless at times, right? Then, after something bad came out, it's the only time when they evaluate the decision they've made and would go like, "I shouldn't have done that!" and so on. Thanks!

We learn in many different ways and often the way we learn best is subject to our personalities. Some can learn from others, but some can only learn by doing and this often includes things they have been warned against. I had three children and each learned in a different fashion. One listened to others and did well in school, the next one learned something in this fashion but still had to experience many things for himself. The third one watched what the other two did and felt she was smarter then they were so made all of their mistakes but kept on trying to learn everything by doing it herself. (She had a very hard childhood)

i think yes, it's the most effective ones because by feeling it by our own. we will become deterrent and never repeat it again. If we use example, if i say, the track from city A to city B is really dangerous and long. For my friends who is street racers, i am sure he will be eager to try it. Thus, he fall down and he say, i should hear what friend say, i am too arrogant. next time i won't repeat it again.

AS they say "experience is the best teacher". And those bad experiences caused by disobedience are usually the one that taught us best the lessons in life and usually the ones that made us realize our mistakes and the lessons learned are the ones that remains in us for a lifetime.

Wxperience is truly the best teacher. Even the bad experiences will teach us something. I am sure we would all like our experriences to be happy ones. That can't always be the vase. Experience will show us how to fail and succeed.

I experiment with everything. I hear more opinions and then experience it. Each person doing things like this personally. The same thing may come out differently. Bad experiences are all to learn something

Good or bad we always learn from our own experience. Experience is the BEST TEACHER.

experience is the best teacher wether you pass or fail it is still best to take that experience. its not good to always learn positive things coz if that happens then no one can ever commit mistake and no one can ever learn, those people who told you negative about the things that you should be doing has undergone the bad experience and they are telling you that to help you, but its still your choice to continue and make your own bad experience, we'll never know that the bad experience that others are hoping maybe good to you. it is in bad experience that we learn more! it is where our strenght and faith is more developed!
