My children had bent my foot rests on my wheel chair when they tried to open it up and set it up for me.I could hardly tell my two boys off as they thought that they were helping me.Well today the man who mends the wheel chairs came out today and he put it right,he was not happy to think that the wheel chair service had not given me a full demo on dismantaling the wheel chair.I have now got to dismantle the wheel chair as i need to put it in a smaller car rather than my people carrier. So in one way the children done me a favor as i have been told not to walk far if i can help it.

I feel for you, my friend. I, too, cannot walk very far as my back will start to tweak on me if I do. My wheelchair lacks footrests altogether, though. My problem is that the armrests will pop out of their sockets without any help at all. All I have to do is sit in the chair and they will pop out from the pressure of my hips on them. It is very frustrating but I can't really complain. I bought the chair used at the thrift store for only $50 and it gets a lot of use, even if I don't sit in it...I use it to carry groceries in, too. It's good that the repairman was able to help you out with your chair. God bless! Hugs!

Thankfully my dr got a wheel chair for me and it is a rare thing to get one of those that you can have permanantly for your own use.The hospital have told me that they do not advise me to stand or walk unless i really have to, so i have had my chair repaired, thankfully it never cost me a penny. When i first got the chair they explained to me that i had to get the right chair for my size aswell as my weight,i always thought that they only done them in one size aswell as one sort.

I'm glad to hear you are getting such good care. I've had to fight for everything I've gotten for my disability assistance. The doctors are so oblivious to my problems! I have talked a blue streak and have basically had to take charge of my own care. But then, I guess I don't have as much family around to look after me as you do. I am so jealous. lol I was just lucky to get my wheelchair, I guess. It would be nice to get it fixed so the armrests would stop popping out. I fit in the chair but the armrests just don't like to stay in.

Hello cutepink It is different that your 4 year old cousin seemed to play with things, and some childern are really trying help us but failed. If it doesn't hurt anybody, I always love to see childern like your cousin, playing with something you didn't expect and turned out surprising our adults. ^^

Those dear ones can manage to break even the toughest of things, can't they...; it is nice to be able to take it in stride so as not to crush their natural curiosity, or damage their spirits. My children too me to school on the task of have things, we'll break 'em; and gave me a totally new outlook on what's really important in life. The tiny tots are extremely useful for teaching old dogs new tricks, aren't they? As for your great chair adventure, sounds like your little ones turned a sensitive situation into a positive outcome-good for all of you.

Sometimes when people try and help you, they make things worse. In your case though it was probably for the best. At least you learned something out of it. My wheelchair only has one leg rest. The second one keeps falling off, so I don't use it anymore. I got it for free though so I guess I can't complain. My therapist gave me the name of some church in the area that kind of recycled all kinds of medical supplies.

How old are the children? Maybe they are too young to understand what they are doing, but you can try explaining to them that you will be hurt if they do that again. Kids can really be a source of joy and annoyance sometimes.

It is probably a blessing that the repair guy had to come out. He can now tell you how to dismantle the chair properly to prevent breakage. That is very good of your repair man to do that for you. Some may not and keep letting it get broken so they can collect the service fees.

I'm in a chair, too. I don't have kids yet, by my assistants' kids occasionally play with "auntie's" chair. When of the first things, we go over is boundaries around my chair. My ex-assistant's son used to tell his little friends, "Martina likes kids, but don't touch her chair. She'll yell at you."

WEll, your children dun mean to break your wheel chair. They are just doing their part in helping to set up the wheel chair, just that they done it wrongly, and thus the foot rest is bent.. hehe ^_^ ANyway, that's a good thing too, as u got to re-learn on how to handle the wheelchair again, and at the same time, letting your kids have more knowledge about it too.. hehe

Kid's can be rough but things sometimes happen for a reason and them doing this helped you to get important information that you needed about the chair that someone failed to tell you about before, so now you are better off, your wheel chair is fixed and hopefully everyone will know how to dismangle it the correct from now on.

I think kids need to learn and be taught to be respectful of others property. If it was a accident that is another matter but they really should be taught. I am glad you got it working and that there is someone that keep the maintenance up on it for you. That could be hard to manage without.

Hi jugsjugs Your boys are good boys and they really want to help you, it's a good thing. I always want to help my Dad, but always he doesn't like the way I've done for him, if it is my Mom, my Mom must show how much she loves my work done and never criticize me.

Hi jugsjugs! I am sorry to hear that you have to use a wheelchair in going around and about your chores. I am a partially disabled man and I want to get in touch with similarly affected individuals. Can I ask you what happened to you to be in a wheelchair? I had a dypertensive stroke in the year 2003 in which I was not able to walk and had to be carried around, bathe and clothe bymy wife. But after undergoing physical therapy for about four months, I now can walk, but with a can, and can drive around. I hope we will be friends and I hope too, that you will not feel bad for my asking. Please always take care!
