I hope he gets a good one. My husband and I bought an auction car from a dealer. It was a great deal until the problems started. We are up over 5 grand in repairs but still it was a good deal. It was a much better deal without the repairs. Just becareful.

I used to go to Car Auctions a lot about 30 years ago and I bought many of my cars from there, used them for about a year and sold most of them for a profit. It is important to know what you are doing though as even experienced mechanics have ended up with vehicles that would cost more than they are worth to fix them up.
Fortunately, my father used to own a repair shop and from a very young age I used to watch his mechanics fixing cars and explaining many things to me, like how to check an engine was working well by listening to it, and how to check suspension/steering and other components. So I was pretty experienced. But I did see some cars sell for high bids that I would not have touched. If your husband has been to an auction and bought before, I guess that he knows exactly what he is doing and has some experience with the mechanics of a car. I hope her gets a really good deal... _Derek

I have never been to a car auction but have a cousin who makes a living buying vehicles from them and reselling them for a profit. I suppose it is an okay venture but you would really need to know what your doing to prevent getting ripped off.

I'll love auctions. I belong to sky auction, a travel auction site and priceline. I like going to real auctions as well. It's an amazing vibe, even if you don't buy anything. I hope your hubby has fun tomorrow.

It is a good choice. However, one needs to be careful with a few aspects. For example it is simple to cover grave problems with ease in cars and a simple cosmetic makeover might hide operational problems.
Also, in an auction it is important not to get carried away while bidding, and I would suggest you have a "maximum budget" beyond which you will not bid irrespective of what happens. It is not uncommon for people to end up overbidding, going by the heat of the moment.
You might also like to look up "sniping" for auctions - it is a good strategy that is followed online for most auctions but also works for real life auctions.
Finally, good luck!

My dad is an auction pro. His friends and friends of his friends now give my dad money to go pick out a car for them, their loved one, or whoever it is that is looking for a car. He's got a reputation for knowing what he is doing. He always gets them a good deal. Often, with their permission, he gets one that needs fixing up, has someone do the work well but inexpensively, and saves the buyers money. He started out doing it as favors. Now people pay him like 200 bucks each time he helps them find a car. He could use the money what with my mom being so sick and everything. He has started to tire of it though. People he doesn't even know now call him asking for help, because they heard about him.

Auctions are always good, if one can be there to bid for the car they wanted.. hehe ^_^ After all, one gets to see the car in real, and be able to assess the condition, thus deciding on the max they are willin to bid.. Making their money all worthwhile.. haha =D
ANd also, the excitment of auction, waiting to win, and at the same time, others trying to outbid us, is just so fun.. lol =D

They are great! I have known people who worked at them before. I am too meek and mild and you have to be rather aggressive and such. My family used to get furniture and such at them. I know the storage units businesses around here have them from time to time and I am thinking there are probably some real treasures to be had.

Many years ago I went to a State auction where they were selling all the old state vehicles, including old police cars. I had a friend go with me who knew about cars and we picked out a lovely old police car that I was able to get for $700! I was thrilled and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. Those state auctions are great places to get good vehicles at low prices.
