I just found out that another witness was killed (thanks to my fellow mylotter). I saw on Facebook the recovered bodies. It's really so alarming how they were treated to be like animals. I am an aspiring journalist and it's so sad how Philippines can be such a dangerous place to live in nowadays.
How can these people be so brutal? I don't think that their god would approve this kind of deed. They're so scary.

Any news about that killing? That Maguindanao Massacre is really very brutal and scary. And no one I think gonna be in jail, as the process of justice is nothing really in Philippines. Is Mayor what's his name is out already? looks like money is working smoothly and with acquintance with Arroyo administration eh!

So that's the price of a lawyer's soul nowadays, P20M. With all the riches that they were able to amass, I am sure the Amapatuans can afford all those souls.

I was so horrified when I first saw the news footage of the Maguindanao massacre. This is one of the reasons why we are high on the list of most dangerous places to live. I cannot fathom a human being being this brutal, and yet it happened. I cannot understand why journalist are being targeted just for reporting the news. Are we such a nation of sore losers (pikon)? Why is it that our politicians cannot accept criticisms from journalists and would just result to permanently shutting critics up? Until now I cannot understand why running for an office would trigger such anger from anyone that he would kill?

Yes that is true perhaps in Maguindanao only. Life there seems to be controlled by a few members of a certain clan. Even they are not holding any polticial powers as of now we can still feel their presence in there that even the Governor that won there decided to hold his office in the town where he feels safe than staying at the governor's official office.
What is disappointing about this is that DOJ is washing their hands clean for not giving this witness some kind of protection. They claim that they have not sought for protection but the lawyers of the witness has been seeking for it for the longest time and DOJ simply ignored or have done anything to make the move of protecting the witness.

I am hoping for it also. I think with the new DOJ secretary we can expect something different from that department. It seems that the current secretary is not that keen on making making the necessary things to hasten the case. Maybe he is just too afraid to make the first move.

I think that the former DOJ secretary received a very huge pay that's why he made a wrong decision of releasing the suspects. Yes, there wasn't any clear evidence that they were the one who killed those media people but there wasn't any evidence either that they were innocent.

I don't think these people believe in God. I think they feel that they are God.
I heard this in the A.M. radio this morning. The witness didn't get any witness protection because the people who told DOJ that he's a witness didn't follow protocol and were cancelling every meeting set by DOJ for them.
As for the decision about Ampatuan, It saddens me that he's not in jail, but the problem is the case lacks concrete evidence that implicates Andal Jr. I'm not pro Ampatuan, but I believe that there are processes for such things and we have to respect the decision of the court, even if the decision is so disgusting. I just hope that the decision truly was of mind and not of emotions.

@knicnax: What decision are you talking about? All the Ampatuans are in jail now. Are you referring to the DOJ decision which exonerated Zaldy Ampatuan? That was reversed a few weeks ago. In fact the request of Ampatuan Sr for hospital arrest was denied.

scary and sad to know that there's no clear progress about this case. this is one of the inhumane deed ever happened and this should have the heaviest penalty!

There is progress in the case but it is slower than a snail. The wheels of justice turn ever so slowly in the case.
@eLsMarie: I do think that we are not passive when it comes to this issue. The media especially has been vigilant in this case since they are greatly affected. Most people are horrified with the massacre and the Ampatuans suffered a resounding defeat in their province in the last election, something unthinkable just a year back. It is slow, but it's democracy at work.

Well we all know who did it. This killings in Maguindanao should be put to an end. If I only have the power to do this, I would. what I would do is to do what they wanted to do. I don't favor in summary execution but in this case, wherein it is very much obvious who's doing this, should be put to an end.

Wow, thanks for the info, eLsMarie. I always had the Phillipines in my to visit list in my vacation, but now that image of a calm and chillful place is gone, it's not really like in the movies, is it? It wouldn't be aprooved even by Triton, I think, it shouldn't be.
