Which are you? For those who are fast, do you get indigestion or suffered any ill effects? For slow eaters, do you encounter impatient people who asked you to hurry up or do you feel embarassed for taking up so much time?

well i belong to the fast one. u cant blame me. we only got 30 minutes meal break time at work and that 30 min would start when u stand up from ur table and the canteen is quite far and we have to remove many things from the kind of suit we wear and connect and wear them again when we are about to get back to work

30 minutes for lunch is quite tough, even if you are slow eater, probably you would have been trained to eat fast in this situation.

Eating fast or slow depends on the age, younger ones eats fast and digest fast, the older eat slow and digest slow. If I am hungry I really eat very fast though the food is hot.

Better find out whether your problem is caused by the fast eating. If it is, then you might need to slow down a bit. So far I have met many fast eaters and they are ok, or at least their stomachs, so it's hard to say.

Yes the problem is that it's hard to determine the cause. Doctors haven't managed to do that in 2 years but it might just be stress.

Problems with the stomach can be very tricky and hard to find the root cause. If you feel stressed, come here often and get entertained!

I would rather eat alone than dine with fast eaters and impatient people. I would rather enjoy my food because I'm a slow eater.

I sometimes hate myself for it. That's why I would rather eat alone than with friends sometimes. Sorry! I've wrongly pasted this same response in #10.

Actually I dislike eating alone, so I would normally ask people out, but luckily my speed is quite moderate so there's always someone faster or slower than me, hehe. Wow you must be savouring every mouthful, good for you!

No probs! I feel that having company for meals enhances the taste of the food, though it may cause indigestion from too much talking. Just my personal preferences though.

I eat very fast, and I always did. But I do everything except eating fast as well, so I think I am really a very fast person in general, more than anything else. But if the others are right (the other people who have replied in this thread, I mean), it will be interesting to see what happens when I get older! I only know one person who eats faster than me, otherwise I am faster than most people I have ever met. I am not so sure that is something to be proud of though!!

I didn't know eating speed has anything to do with age, but I suppose as we get older, we tend to take things easy, maybe we know just the kind of food we like, so we will eat slowly to enjoy it. Since you are faster than most, probably you are always waiting for people to finish?

Unless the food is piping hot, generally i am a fast eater. Probably since young have been trained to eat faster, and working life one has just to eat faster during peak hours....

carpediem, It's better to take your time, your stomach probably doesn't understand the peak hour concept.

Do you think you should rush through the food even though others are still at it? Isn't it boring to wait for others to finish? Or maybe you can keep the conversation lively at the table.

if i have the luxury of time, i will but not if i don't. But I am generally not a slow consumer.

hi bluemoonpavilion someone else posted a discussion on this topic several days ago but I think you have enough of a different slant on it that you will not get this deleted. hope not. lol. I am a fast eater and I get upset at my self because now I am retired I have lots of time to eat slowly and enjoy my food better. but habit takes over and'my table mate waits for me occasionally as I do try to slow down'nmore now I am retired.

I hope not too and I just saw that topic. Well, great minds think alike ;-) Even though you might fall back to your habits, you can remind yourself once in a while to slow down and enjoy it. My dinner usually takes a longer time because I'm more relaxed at home and I try to savour the meal.

I know I shouldn't eat fast, but sometimes I forget that its healthier to eat slower for the digestive tract and a lot of times I find myself eating too fast mostly because I'm just in a hurry, or simply because I just want to eat and get it over with instead of savoring every bite like I should, I dont know why its completely an unintentional thing, but there are still a few rare occasions that I actually stop and enjoy my food.

So you are a chameleon? Haha, just joking, I sometimes change like that too but at home I normally eat quite slowly because it's better for digestion.

Hi, bluemoonpavilion! I'm a fast eater, definitely. I usually have my meal within 10 minutes if the temperature is suitable. But I can't eat hot food, if the temperature of food is too high, I must eat with small bites or wait for it cool down, this process will take a long time.

10 minutes is way toooo fast....I only do that for breakfast. Your stomach must be very strong to do that. And it's also advisable not to gobble down food that is too hot too. It seems that we Chinese are at a higher risk of suffering throat cancer because we tend to eat hot soup or other hot food a lot.

I'm not a slow eater or fast eater, I'm in the middle. My sister is really a slow eater! Everybody is already watching TV but my sister is still chewing and eating! I'm not impatient to wait for people who are slow eaters because I have the time to talk with them while they are eating especially my friends.

That's very nice, so the patience extends to your sister too?
