Hi everyone! I would like to ask if this is bad for my health, here's the scenario, I am working at the small office. I work 8 hours in 5 days and the aircondition is just near beside me and I need to wear a jacket cause it's really cold while it's so hot outside. There are times when I go outside as part of my job. I also had a problem with my lungs 10 years ago but it's already cured. There is no way that I can change or re-arrange my table as I have said our office is so small and I cannot turn the airconditioning a little lower cause it might get hotter in other part of the office. I think the placing of aircondition is wrong but there is no available place. What do you think?

It is quite unhealthy I believe. I remember when I worked at the World Trade Center my desk was right next to the cooling system by the end of the week I would be going home sick with swollen glands or a fever. I think you need to talk to someone about either changing your seat or putting the air conditioner some where else. Its not good to be freezing then going out into the heat, its very bad for your health.

I know from my experience that air-condition is both good and bad. I had to stay for a few hours under the cold conditioned air and I got a back ache for a long time. It is true I'm more sensitive than others to draught. On the other hand, air-condition is good in hot weather. Try to switch off the air-conditioning for certain short periods if you can. I know it takes a certain time for a room to get so hot that you can't stand it. And think anyway at a solution to place your table in a more comfortable place. I also know that coming and going too often from one place to another that have big differences in temperature is not so good for health.

Of course ,it will hurt your body more or less . It is wrong setting that the cold wind face to you . But you said that your office is too small to change its position before . So I suggest you that you take another cloth in your office to keep you warm .

As I have said my jacket is the only protector I have, I cant wear something thick now cause the weather is still hot outside. I will suffer from hot temperature if I do so I wear light clothes and put the jacket on when I'm at the office. That is Filipino's burden for having hot temperature and we have to live with that forever.

Get yourself a desk thermometer. Record the temperature every day. Make a spread sheet if you have to! At the first signs of a cold or flu go to your doctor and ask him if that has anything to do with it. He will say it very well could be. I hope you have health insurance through work. If they caught wind (pun intended) of that don't be surprised if things change, drastically. You need to think how you can hit your employer hard. That's not being mean, it's for self preservation. No one should be sitting in a cold or hot draft. Good luck!

Too bad that we don't have health insurance as of now, but I'm working on it as soon as our salary raise, we are running out of budget. Thanks and god bless!

It is not techncally bad for health..use moistrizer for your skin but do not let your body tempreture change drastically like when you want to go outside let our body warm first by moving around in the office before going out. The different in tempreture at my school and the tempreture outside really huge. The aircondition temp is like 18 and the temp outside is like 34. So during the days when i go in and out often, i will fall sick easily..

I bring lotion with me that is why my bag is heavy. I really hardly catch cold or flu and I thank god for that. Outside the office alone is hot so I have time to warm my body, thanks for sharing!

hey please ask your authorities to change your place of work or at least ask them to shift the AC to some other place. This might really affect you. You will not come to know the health hazards now. But in the long run you will have problems. better sit away from the AC and don't go out in the hot sun immediately from the AC. After you are out from the AC be in a place of normal temperature for some minutes and then go out. Otherwise your skin will be affected. Please try and not sit in the AC continuously for long hours.

I have the same problem. Often I just turn off the airconditioning without asking the other people there. I know they don't like it when I do it, but they don't say anything about it, so I just continue doing it. Besides, I'm much more affected than they are. It's harder to work when your fingers are all stiff and you can't even feel them anymore than when you feel a little bit uncomfortable because it's not cold enough. But I don't turn it off the whole day. I do think of my officemates too. I let them turn on the aircon for a few hours, and when I'm feeling very cold already, I turn it off and then just turn it on again when it's not very cold anymore.

I don't know why the a/c that my boss bought has no remote control so you have to go up and manually turn it on/off. Besides we cannot last a minute without a/c, so imagine that. I'll just constantly bring my jacket and do the tip that these great people have given me.

frequently use a moisturizer for face that match your skin type, so face and your skin not look more dry. And, don't linger too long in air-conditioned, if possible, take a minute a few minutes out of the room so that you get fresh air ..

Just remember to take the jaket off when you're working in the heat. And, I think you could adjust the unit. A couple of dregrees will make a huge differance, but won't swelter the entire office. There are things you can do if you want to prevent yourself from getting sick.

I take the jacket off when the temperature turns hot. I'll just adjust the unit lower. Thanks for reminding me, I kept on forgetting 'bout that.

Always wear your jacket while inside the office to fight off the cold temperature, then when you go out of the office, don't go out immediately. Instead, do it slowly, so your body can gradually adapt to the change in temperature. Plus, try this: when you go out of your office, try drink warm water to make your body warmer and more suited to the warm or hot temperature outside. Then when you enter your office, drink cold water.

I guess it is really bad for your health. if you are daily facing it , then you may suffer from some problems. it is because AC's just suck the moisture out of your body and when you are sitting so much close to it, it can be affect your health badly. Its gas is very harmful and can cause severe problems for your lungs.
Moreover as your are frequently moving in and out, your body temperature keeps on varrying to extents and this is also very harmful.
So my advice to you is that dont compromise anything for your health. Just talk to your boss and try to fix it, cause it is really bad for you.
take care

if you cannot move your table, move the airconditioner... you're situation can cause you trouble... nasty and dangerous health problems, later on...
