It tells you a story. In sports you cannot stagnate, you need to move. Italy came with almost the same squad that won the cup in 2006 for the 2010 world cup. The players were older and slower. Cannavaro was a pale shadow of himself. His mind wanted him to be at one place, but his body could not take him there and he ended up giving clumsy goals with his defending!! This was probably the poorest defensive unit Italy has sent for a world cup.
Cheers!

if italy did have played a bit of soccer instead of use dirty tricks and appeal to lady luck they would be in the next round, however, a team unable to beat a pseudo-profesional team like new zealand leaves a lot to desire of a team. but sometimes crappy teams can win, you only have to see, who won the euro 2004, or that RCDE espaƱol was able to reach the final of uefa cup, a team that usualy is fighting for not get relegated

I think that Italy deserved to get knocked out of the world cup. In all the matches they only seemed to begin to attack when they conceded the first goal. They were very defensive and if they played from the start as they did when they were 2 - 0 down then i am sure that they would still be in the tournament.

I have predicted an early exit but never thought they would stumble out in the group stage. Watching their games, it is not hard to find out what goes wrong. In fact, the entire team need an overhaul. Strikers not firing, midfielders very static with no creativity. And worse, their fame defence is not up to their usual self and leaking goals.
Well, till the next edition, Ciao!

Hi jagjit,
It is not surprise for me that Italy was kicked out from this World Cup edition. They actually lucky to draw with Paraguay and New Zealand.
Italy depend too much from their old guard and most of their player were past their peak time. Their youngsters also did not have much experiences. This World Cup is for them to gain some experiences and as expected they fail to retain the cup.
