Why do people try so hard to get twitter followers?

I am on Twitter, but I don't care if I have followers. I believe it is more competition than anything on getting followers, (I got more than you do). Granted Twitter can be boring, but if you get the right stream of people of businesses that you enjoy, you can find information much quicker, like sales, discounts, places to see, etc. I only get on Twitter once a week and tweet a couple time a day if there is something intereting to tweet. Twitter is not all about rocks stars, etc. You just have to search your interest. Like example. I like to blog so I find others on there that do and find some interesting blogs to read.

good question. i have my own twitter account but i find twitter sort of boring. i really dont care about movie or rock stars. i would rather hang out with my family on facebook.
