...but it is very important that you do it!!!
Those words were spoken by Mahatma Gandhi who was a brilliant Indian Philosopher & also a Political & Spiritual Leader of India during the Indian Independence in the 1900's. What do you hear when you read these words & what do they mean to you???

In the ascetic point of view, what you do may always be insignificant.. but what Gandhi did for Indian Independence champions the democratic world.. even he couldn't deny that.. Ascetics (Ascetism) deny themselves of earthly pleasures, this philosophy is very common in India. They are not to expect anything good that shall prosper from their primal actions, this is to deny oneself of expectations in life. The act of self denial make their life simple and they experience NIrvana (state of perfection or heaven in Earth).

I feel you here... this is an example of one of the many reasons why 'insignificant' to one may be 'highly significant' to another. It is all in how you perceive things, it may not even be the purposeful intent. I have been humbled many times when I realize how seriously something was taken when it was simply a joke to me.

We have to do what there is to be done regardless how insignificant...
It's part of our life's plan to do things that really mean nothing in the long run....
This all means to me, I do as it all comes to me in order for the universe to understand I'm trying to be a good person and find a way into the outer realms of life.
That is what this means to me.

I think as individuals we sometimes think the things we do are insignificant when those receiving the benefits of our actions can see the GREATER GOOD!!! This statement reminds me of the movie It's A Wonderful Life where George felt he was insignificant until Clarence showed him ALL the lives he had touched with his simple acts of kindness!!!

Hi LadyMarissa,
I have been mia from here a long time but I had to respond to this posting specifically. I just watched 'Remember Me', which is about a drifting young man (Robert Pattinson) who has spent all his time up to thd movie's start more or less.... drifting. In the opening scenes, those words are spoken, he says them.
To me that means it will be insignificant in the scheme of the big picture, but I don't think that means it's really insignificant. The reason it is very important that we do these things is that they matter - to us, as well as possibly to those we love and care about, and maybe those we don't even know. Small things can affect those around us in ways we never could imagine, and maybe will never know.
That is my answer for why. Gandhi - in saying this - is a virtual genius.

I think because you will never know where it will lead you until you try. So, better try it. Do it.
I really like and admire your Indian hero. Here's another quote I like from Mahatma Gandhi:
""Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

In all honesty, I cannot say Gandhi is my hero. I do know he was a wise & peaceful man!!! In doing my research for this discussion, I learned that Gandhi had said various things that I was raised were the way I needed to guide my life. The quote you posted is one. I've always tried to Live like I was dying!!! To make the MOST of today each & every day!!!

That is so true. Life is full of ironies, circumstances and surprises. But, take all the chances and live every day as if it's your last. As the saying goes, "It's better to have tried it and failed than to have never tried it at all".
