Well, do you need a laptop when you go outside badly? Does your studies or profession demands a laptop like that? Then go ahead; listen to your heart. But if you want to get one for your pride, then definitely don't do it. Now you can decide what to do.

Then what is the reason for your desire to buy a laptop in the first place? Why did you want to have one? Don't you have any clear ideas of your own about buying a laptop? Then how did you thought of buying one, even going against your mother's word?

If I were you I'll go buy it. Its your money after all. And laptop is really convenient. You can bring it everywhere. So I'll advise you to go and buy one.

Hi nina_Khan, Your Mom is right, you have to listen to your Mom, you have alredy have a computer, so you don't really need a laptop, why do you need one when you are out? you go out to meet people and friends, not to sit in front of a Laptop and they are very expensive, your money can go to buying some better, you mother is always right, so obey her. Sweetie, if you need a laptop for work or something closely important i would say, just buy one. But, if it's not really necessary to have one, rather leave it, before your mom decide to try out the whip on you. TATA.

Do not force your mom to buy that stuff, because the more you force her the more that your mom won't allow you to buy that thing. Just be patience and try to do the best thing that you can make your mama proud. And eventually, she will realize that you deserve to be rewarded so she will bought you a laptop, without begging on her.

Listen your mother, the voice of ration. You have a desk pc, you don't need a laptop. To use it when you go out ? Well, if you go out meet with friends, you and them wanna spend some time together and not meet down-town or wherever to .. play games or surf the net. And in rare case accessing some site to find a specific and urgent detail is required, there are internet cafes .. Or if you with or without friends/family, are going to make a trip somewhere out of cities, in middle of nature (mountains or similar, for example), you are there to enjoy the trip, not to use the pc ..

So if you have a pc I see no reason why you would need a laptop. If you only go out to do internet, you can stay home and do it there. Not all places have wifi connection, so.

I think you should listen to your mom. You can rethink, weather you really need computing power when you are on move. Mostly busy executives and highly places people need computing facility on move. If you feel the need for laptop is not driven by craze and you really require(Not desire) one, try to convince your mom and then buy it.

Hi Nina_khan, In my opinion, buying a laptop is not at all a bad idea. It's just the preference to buying one that matters. It actually depends on the reason or the need why you are buying it. First of all, are you out of the house more often? When you are out of the house, are there occasions that you feel you can be doing something worthwhile with a computer or will it just be for leisure purposes? If your answer is the first one, then you might consider buying one but if it will only be used for other things that are not so important, then might as well forget the idea since you can always do those things at home with your personal computer. Sometimes we can't decide what is good if we use the heart alone to gauge things and leaving out what our minds are telling us to do. We have a pc at home but I bought a laptop because I can't do any work outside without one. At the same time, the pc is always used by my younger daughter for projects so that leaves me waiting for it to become available everytime so I decided that it is better that I get my own computer, one that I can bring and use in the kitchen, in the bedroom, in my car while my husband drives, at the park or just anywhere. Good luck!

The first question is, do you really need a laptop? Do you need it for work or at school? Would you be more efficient if you have one? If you don't need it, then your mom is right. If you work most of the time with your PC, then I bet you would still be using your PC at work or at home. I use my PC most of the time. Just use my laptop when I'm mobile and have to do presentations. But if you feel that having one would help you and be beneficial, maybe you can start explaining to your mom the advantages of having a laptop in your case. Just be patient until she gets what you mean. OUr parents at times, esp. if they are not users, would not be able to understand the value of computer in this age of information. Ultimately, if you have the money to spend for it...then I guess you are old and responsible enough to decide for yourself.

The reason I bought my laptop is because I wanted my own computer and I didn't want to get a big bulky laptop, and it was a lot easier to get a laptop and it's very convenient when my family and I go on trips because I take it and my parent check their emails on it. If you plan on needing a computer when you go places, then buy it, if you don't really need it for that you should just keep your money.

Hi Nina Khan,\ Your profile tells me that you are 24 yrs old. When I was 24 I was married, had a child and moved out of my parents home. My mother could offer up advice and make suggestions but I was my own person. I was earning my own money and she could not tell me how to spend it. I don't know your situation entirely but if it were me, I know I'd be going with my heart.

I think if it is your money then you should be allowed to buy whatever you want to. But then again, laptops aren't really that useful and can be troublesome to take around with you. I bought one so I can have a computer to take to class. Mine wasn't too heavy but it was a hassle to carry around with me and also find wireless signal to get connected to the internet. Still, your money so you should try to reason with your mother but if she doesn't listen, I think you should still buy what you want.

Hi, nina_khan. If you feel that you want to buy a laptop then do so. That is your money. You can't take a PC outside the access the Internet. Only a laptop can be taken on the outside. You are a grown man. You should be able to buy whatever you feel that you need. Explain kindly to your mom that you would like a laptop and that it is very much needed as a part of your normal routine. Your mom has to allow you to make your own decisions what is best for you. Having a laptop and a computer is not a crime and it is not going to kill anyone. So why is your mom suggesting that you don't need a laptop since you already have a PC?

thanks for your response i am not going to buy because after too much thinking i thought i dont really need it very much. the need is smaller than the amount i will spend on it. take care

It's never a good idea to make mom mad. Believe me...lol! It sounds like the real problem is because you already have a PC. Is there any charitable organization that you can give your PC to? Surely there are families or children who wouldn't otherwise be able to have one? Maybe an act of charity will soften mom up to having a laptop? Maybe even she would know some one who could really use your old PC, and appreciate it? Getting you mom involved in the switch from PC to laptop may be the way to go? Just a thought. (However, PC's are easier to fix if something goes wrong). Instead of a laptop, what about a cell phone with internet capabilities?

i have cell phone with internet capabilities but GPRS on mobile is very expensive. and about my PC, my PC is very good too it is not old i am used to update with the passage of time. i like up to date technologies and now i have planned to not to buy laptop. because i am thinking to move from here. once i am not here than i will think what do i need?? a laptop or what??

How old are you? If you are under age, listen to your mother. If you are of legal age to be on your own, make your own decisions Of your avatar is actually you, you look old enough to make your own decisions without parental consent. Another question - do you have a job? Do you need the money to pay bills? Do you have any real need for a laptop outside home? Do you want one because 'everyone else has one' or because it is truly necessary?

no actually she is not forcing me to do so. but she gave me an advice to not to do so. i am earning my own money and i can do what i want. but this time she told me why you are doing like this?? save your money for some future time i said ok

that's really a dilemma! but i think you should ponder it,afterall, your mother dont let you buy a laptop is just for your good, because it's really no need to buy laptop as you already have a pc.your mother is hard to earn money,so you should be good to your mother.
