Pele once said that an African nation would win the World cup before the turn of the last century, this did not happen. During this world cup I've been more impressed with South Korea and Japan than any of the African countries, Therefore I have reached the conclusion that although there are superior individuals from the African continent I believe that the Asian countries are better team players and therefore I think that an Asian country will win the world cup before an african country.

Hi thekelz I agree with you that in this World Cup the Asians outplayed the Africans. While there are two teams from Asia going into the last 16 there is only one African Nation Ghana making it to the knockout stage. However I differ with you on one point that a country from Asia will win the World Cup before any African Nation.Though as an Asian it will give me immense joy and pleasure if it happens that way but I don't think it is possible.Pele was a great footballer even to many individuals he is the greatest while there are others who think that Maradona is better than him..but he is a very bad predictor.Almost all his forecasts fails to deliver and so it wasn't surprising that his prediction of an African continent winning the World Cup failed.Africans are strong and possess skill but they lack discipline. They can seldom perform as a team. Also ego plays a very big role in African football and in a team game there can't be any egos.If Africa can produce teams in the true sense of the word then there is no reason why they can't win the World Cup in the near future.

Hi Naxous, I do agree with you about African players being stronger, fitter and more gifted, but it's the lack of discipline that I don't think you'll ever get from an african nation. It'll take something from their game if they we're to become too defensive as africa produce some of the best attacking players in the world(George Weah, Drogba, Eto'o). Where as the Asian countries are organised defensivley, I just think their a bit niave at the moment but with more experience I think they could be in for a real shout. I guess the thing about this world cup is that all the continents are getting closer to each other regarding standards, so that can only be a good thing.
Thanks for responding I found your views very interesting.

Going back the team that qualify to the next round,
South American (100%)
North American (66.7%)
Asia (50%)
Europe (50%)
Africa (16.7%)
Others (0%)
It shows that South and North American football is on the rise. Asia have remain stagnant with the same 2 countries representing them in the round of 16. Oceania thou did not have any representative, they sole team, New Zealand, did well. Europe and Africa is becoming poorer. So if there is a winner beside South America and Europe, I will pick the USA to do it.

You will excuse me, but I don't believe that African or Asian club will ever win the World Cup. This championship is held already 80 years, the winners are from South America and Europe. The biggest success of these 2 continents is South Korea's 4th place 8 years ago. Just there the football is not so popular and the interest of the children to start training is very small.
But if it ever happen, the champion will be from Asia. Cheers!
