It is always said that when you are not able to sleep you should drink milk or read a book. Have you ever witnessed this situation. Me ya, I always read something before going to bed....just in some minutes I began to close my eyes. Some books are so interesting that I want to read the whole before going to sleep. This means I do not get sleepy....What about you?

Hi,
The books make me sleepy only if it deals with something I am not interested in at that moment. Suppose I feel like drawing and I have exam tomorrow. So I have to study the subject, though I don't feel like it at all. Now, this particular kind of situation makes me feel sleepy. I feel like those sentences are alive and their limbs, the words are dancing all over the pages. Sometimes it seems as if the sentences are interchanging positions as if they are playing musical chair. Sometimes everything goes blurred and then after a while my Mom wakes me up. Books that are engrossing often keeps you awake even when you are dog tired and terribly want to sleep. It actually depends on the mood at the moment you are reading it. There is a time and mood to read drama, as there is to read novel or poetry. If things go awry, we feel sleepy. Thanks.
God bless you

I've heard those sayings, too. But I don't think it works that well for many people. I mean, if I really like the book I'm reading, then it's going to be a while before I actually feel tired enough to go to sleep. I've tried that before to see if it'd work, and I was up for around an hour and a half before I was sleepy enough to go to bed. So it may work for some, but it doesn't really work for me. Maybe if the book was boring or something? I'm not sure!

If the book is interesting and the way it is written is not boring, there's no way I'll feel sleepy. There are even times that I remain reading till the wee hours of the morning because I simply can't hold down what I'm reading. But if the book is boring, I can easily easily fall asleep.

I think reading makes me tired because I read at the wrong times. Reading late at night is a problem for me. Night is the perfect time to read because it is so quiet and peaceful. Only reading at night is bad because you don't concentrate as much because you're tired.

I have problems going to sleep when I'm reading a book because I LOVE to read and I often find myself staying up late to finish a really good book. However, reading before you go to bed is much better for your sleep cycle than watching tv, listening to music, or having the computer on. It's recommended that you have a bedtime routine where you relax, turn off all the electronics, and spend time winding down. Books are better at winding a person down than most forms of entertainment we silly humans try before going to bed.

Reading a book usually stimulates me. I only feel sleepy when when reading if I am reading after a busy day of activities. My mind is ready to unwind so it doesn't take much then to make me sleepy. Reading a book too long in that state will make me sleepy quicker.

Nope. Especially when the book is really good that I cannot put it down. So the opposite happened to me in that case. I usually cannot sleep because of the suspense. I usually just watch something while I lie down if I cannot sleep.

It depends very much on the book, to be honest. If it is a good book, I really want to read, and find it harder to fall asleep. The same goes for very exciting books (thrillers, etc.). But if it is a book I don't particularly like, or a very boring book, then it usually makes me sleepy, yes.

Hi, valentina. Yes, I do feel very sleepy after I read a book. My body tends to get very tired. I can't read a book when I am sleepy, because if I do, I will fall asleep while reading my book. And then my eyeglasses will be on my face too. I don't want them to break.

I saw that thing it`s working in my case too. Since i was young, and i needed to reak a specific book, because the teacher told me to, it was har to read it, because after a few pages, i was already sleepy. Even if a book was very interesting, i couldn`t read a lot of pages, because i was sleepy, and i couldn`t understand anything from that moment.

I have a book that always makes me sleepy no matter whether it's night or day - it's a linguistics book. It's so boring and badly written that it is the best sleeping pill for me.

All the time, I actually read when I have insomnia.
Lately Ive been sending articles that I find intersting to my cellphone e-mail so I can read at night, the light of the cell makes me even more sleepy. Thats when I got a tired sight and ate a lot of bluberries to make up.
