I did watch the match but read in the news that US is out of world cup. Seems that England is next to go out.

I actually feel that the US football team is developing very well. The problem is that the pool of players is yet not deep enough to have good backup players for alternative teams. For e.g. the center backs that the US were very good against a less mobile Emile Heskey, but against Ghana, they were not able to contain Gyan. Unfortunately, I could not see anyone on the bench who could have played that role better either. But, I still think USA is progressing in the right direction with fantastic team spirit. Now they need to build on this success and increase their pool of world class players.
Cheers!
Ram

Thanks. I am so new to World Cup soccer. So we are getting there. Do you think there will be a U.S. team that will be good enough to win the World Cup?

OH I have to tell you the USA team was such a disappointment. From the very start, they demonstrated lack of spirit and will to win. They only showed how silver spoon fed they have been. It was so sad to see them loose.

I think that the USA did well. It was an entertaining match and if it had not been for the Ghana goalkeeper, who made some great saves, they might have got through to the last 8.

They were lost after extra time, and they had shown that they fought hard in every match they encountered. I don't think the team was a failure, as they were playing above expectation. They showed determination that even the defending champion (Italy) and France couldn't show. Yes, I think they're unlucky: remember that they have some disallowed goals that are still controversial...

Why do you think the team was failure? I think that's the first time they are going to the 1/8 final (I'm not sure for that). It's success for the whole nation. They were so close to the 1/4 final but for the second goal the old US defenders weren't able to stop the fast young Ghana's forward A.Gyan.
At all with the draw matches with England and Slovakia, the win against Algeria and taking the 1st place in the group you can be only proud!

Thanks for your response. If you told me before The World Cup started that we would win the group over England, I wuld have thought you were crazy.

Not a failure, in fact quite a surprise.
USA was lucky in first game (England's goalkeeper mistake), was unlucky and disadvantaged by refree in second game (they should have win that game), ok in third game, proven not experienced enough and maybe a bit tired in last game with Ghana. While Ghana was playing to "defend the honour of all Africa".
No, it was a nice surprise and to bad they are out, yet not at all a failure.
They could be named as failure if they would have had as goal winning the cup .. as "big" names in world wide footbal were espected to run for the cup but awfuly failed - France, Italy .. the en-titre world champions (Italy) and the vice-world champions en-titre, France - those 2 playied final last WC, in Germany and now they are out shamefully. THAT mean a failure.

I think American played very well. They created more goal opportunities. The goal keeper of Ghana stopped many shots last night.I like the spirit of US world cup team, they strived for winning the game all the time. Gyan is so strong. He took the opportunity.
