I have a 3 year old boy who have been fascinated with the cartoon movie "cars" he often calls himself "lightning mcqueen" the lead character of the said movie. I bought him some car's stuff and dvd of the movie, he has completed all the set of cars cartoon characters. What I hate about it is he always watch those kids who have cars collection in youtube, he keeps on repeating it until he'd memorize all their lines. He even doesn't want to play with his playmates outside, this addiction made him unsociable. If I don't turn on the pc and play youtube videos he would through a tantrum and cry like begging. If you are in my situation, how would you keep him away from this hobbies to make him go out and play with the kids at his age? I don't want him to be unsociable.

For my children, especially my three-year-old, I have to limit their antisocial time. They aren't allowed to watch television all day long and they aren't allowed to spend the entire day on the computer. We are lucky in our neighborhood that there are a lot of other children so there is almost always someone for the kids to play with. In addition to that, we are also in a playgroup and I make it an effort to attend at least one event a week with other children.

My 2 year old nephew is also in love with Lightning McQueen but we don't have a problem with him becoming unsociable since he likes basketball also.
His grandma takes him to a basketball court every afternoon with his own ball so he dribbles while he watches the older guys play.
Maybe you can introduce your kid to other kids who also like Lightning McQueen.

my 3 year old son is something that is difficult to stop whenever he starts watching movies. mind you, he do it all by himself, turning on the dvd machine and the tv set, put in the disc on the machine and plays the movie. you cannot disturb him, he will hold the remote controls for both the tv and the machine.
he loves to watch tom and jerry, sponge bob square pants, dora. these cartoon movies are bit fine for this kid. but i hate to see him watching movies which are not educational and to think, crime oriented like the power rangers, etc.
i love to see him imitating tom and jerry or the characters in dora. you can tell that he almost memorized the movies as there are certain parts of the movies that he even move or act ahead of the scenes. but if he imitates the rangers, everybody in the house should cover up for themselves. you might get hit with his swords or arrows.

My 5 year old son is addicted to tv. In India there are more chinese cartoons, with lot of voilence. He like the Jackie Chang cartoon and imitates those karate kicks. he experiemtns those kicks on us. he doesn't know where to burn his energy.
There are no children of his age in our area and parks are very far away. I have a 7 yr old daughter , but she is not that much addicted. both of them play but fight most of the time.
He is very social and looking at his activities we have now enroled him in swimming classes. He gets tired after the classes , has dinner and goes off to sleep .
now the voilence at home is reduced and TV watching is also reduced. So soon when he goes to higher classes he will get engrossed more in studies (I guess) LOL
For some days hide the DVD , computer TV somewhere say they are not working and see his reactions.
