Do you find it improper if somebody yawn infront of you?

I know that it is quite difficult to avoid yawning especially if you feel sleepy but, is it fine if you yawn infront of others?
I have a colleague who always yawn without thinking who is infront of her. There are times, she yawns infront of our bosses.
I just want to find out if this is fine with you or is it improper?

Yawning while somebody else is talking is unpolite. It is the sign of boredom, the lack of interest. It says "I am not interesting what you are talking about." This is why we are hurt when somebody is yawning "in our face" while we are speaking. You can read from the face of people whether they are sleepy, exhausted or just bored.
Ask your colleague why she keeps yawning all day long. Does she work on a night shift somewhere else? Or is she simply bored? If she denies she keeps yawning then she is just bored. If she is overworked and exhausted, she will know about it.

No, I don't think it is bad manners or anything, because I think people can't help it a lot of the time. If you are really tired, you yawn, that is just the way it is, not much to be done about it. But I guess if you do it very loudly or something, it could be annoying. Not sure I would do it in front of my boss though, maybe she should be careful about that!

hi airsheila no as its something one cannot help, and its not gross like belching or burping.for goodness sakes how proper do we have to be just to live and go about our business. If more people were more concerned about themselves and thei own behavoir I doubt if they noticed I yawned or you yawned. why is something you cannot hgelp improper and hwo is to tell me what I can and cannot do?I
feel its imporper to be worried about something I or you ca nnot even help. we are humans not robots.

Hi. airshelia. I don't think that it is improper to yawn in front of others. I just think that when it is done, she should cover up her mouth and say "Excuse me", after she has yawn. It would be also proper and respectable for her to turn to the side as she is yawning too.

Yawning in front of other people could mean many things to different people. If you yawn in front of a friend or a boss when they are speaking this could mean you are not interested. Next it tells who you are and what kind of values and etiquette did you get from your parents. Third it is just so impolite and disrespectful in front of superiors. Yes it is very very improper and unbecoming whether it is a woman or a man.

yawning is really involuntary, i mean, sometimes we can't control it (well, sometimes we can but it looks awkward doing it)
yawning in front of your boss, while in a meeting or while talking of something important, is OFFENSIVE. i guess. because yawning means you are sleepy and uninterested of the discussion.

I am not really bothered
unless the person has bad breath problem I will say something
sometimes they don't have bad breath, they just happen to eat something with strong spices, that too I will say something because they supposed to cover their mouth anyway
but other than that, I'm fine with it

I don't think it is particularly impolite, it is only natural. I try not to yawn in important meetings or something, but sometimes it can't be helped, but I would try to put my hand in front of my mouth.
