I was reading an article which was saying the most harmful effects of recession are on children. When the adults earnings are reduced or decreased they cannot provide those necessities which enable the child to grow intellectually and emotionally.Do you agree with this view?Or do you hold a contrarian view? All contributions to this discussion are gleefully accepted.

Those used to affluence will be the hardest hit. They will find it hard to adjust to realities. Some will lose esteem as their lifestyle is brought down a rung or two. They might turn to crime which will harm society.Your points are valid and have social relevance.

Because of my age I know many people who were children during the depression. Many time there wasn't much to eat and you wore your brother's, sister's or cousin's cloths. Dog bones were given away and we often had soup made from them and a few
old vegatables. When we made soup we made a lot to share, refrigeration was not available. If we went to school we shared books no one had their own. When we look back on the 20th century there were much worse times for our country than the depression but while we were living through it we learned to make do with very little. In some places in the country people never recovered from it and live with
those condiitons even today. Human children are very strong and do not have to be spoon fed their education or intellectual developement. Emotionally humans are strong and can withstand many difficult conditions. I really think it's the difficult times that you look back on a see your most challenging opportunities for
learning and growth.

Your view is quite comprehensive and gives details of the trials and tribulations of the great depression.Yes i do accept your view that adversity tests the character of people. Those who withstand this test will come out stronger and better individuals.I think children and adults should take a leaf out of your encouraging account and improve themselves so they can make better use of opportunities in future.

I believe that there will be effects on our children but as early as now we should be planning on how we can let them know that we can still handle the situation. We should open their eyes to what is happening but not to the extent that they should already be affected. Let them play. =)

Yours is a very positive and effective contribution which i deeply cherish. The children ought to be made aware but it shouldn't effect them.Yes they ought to play and retain their childlike spirit.I think the fine balance between awareness and retaining their nature is a difficult one.
