Ive heard conflicting storys and i want to know the truth, is the Beatles song Lucy in the sky with diamonds in reference to the drug LSD? Ive been told that the idea of the song came from a picture that was given to John lennon and that the song itself is based of the childrens story Alice in Wonderland. I can see the simmilaritys in the song and the book. Lucy being Alice in the boat on the river. The song also mentions a train, looking glasses, objects made out of news paper, and ginat towering flowers, all being things in the story as well. Knowing this really doesnt help me as the whole song comes across to me as one big acid trip. Dose anyone out their have information that could help put a stop to my confusion?

That's the story, but its not true. John's son did a picture and when he asked what it was about Julian said it was his little friend who he sweet on, Lucy, in the sky with diamonds. John basically wrote the song off the picture.

I can only imagine what that LSD trip must have been like. It could have lasted several days.

Im not saying that its impossible for it to have been written abou a drawing. But there are facts. All of the beatles took LSD so whos to say they didnt write a song about it?

I believe John and Julian Lennon's story that it was really based on Julian's drawing as a kid. I also read somewhere that he me Lucy again (Lucy was his kindergarten classmate). Yet the lyrics of the song are very 'trippy'. But it's a great song, no argument on that.

Its not a secret that the beatles loved to have a cheeky trip now and again...but I believe that this song is about a picture that Lennons son, Julian drew. People just want to associate it with LSD because..Well I dont know..Maybe they think it makes the story of the songs creation more interesting. It is definitely a psychedelic song..And LSD was obviously an influence..But I dont think that the song itself is about this.

Yes, i beleive it is about LSD. In that era, the 60's, everyone was doing acid.! It is completely logical to beleive that they wrote a song about dropping acid. Plus Lucy Sky Diamonds. thats LSD.!
