First they are still young, they are in exploratory stage. But you will need to catch them in action to show them how bad that was. You can not do after the fact as they do not remember the no-no but will remember how you handled it. You will have to monitor when the eat and drink. Never leave food or water for them when you go to bed. You will do no harm to them as they will sleep also. You need to put them on an eating/watering schedule when you are home and then it is approximately one hour after that they will need to relieve themselves, that is when you will have to watch and pick them up and take them to the litter box. Also be sure the litter box is not near their food or water, cats are picky about that.

They will weene until they are about 7 weeks old. You will be able to tell by the momma cat when it is time as she will move away from them more and more when they try to get milk from her. You will hear a bunch of crying from the kittens but that is where you can step in and help momma by showing them where the food is. If you eat tuna in water or salmon, you may want to give them a little bit of that juice to help weene them from momma and then starting about half and hour after that pick them up and show them where the litter box is every 10 minutes for the next half hour. Also since you would probably like to keep them on a feeding schedule as I mentioned, pick up their food and water so they cannot get to it. Both my cats were kittens when I got them and I would feed them and have water down first thing in the morning and after I was done getting ready for work I would pick it up. If they did not eat, well, they would have to wait until dinner time. Then I would do the same again. They learned very quickly. The reason you want to put them on an eating schedule is because you don't want them eating too much or you will be picking up spots other than potty spots. May I ask, how many kittens did momma have?
