I am going to be traveling and staying in a hotel- without a parent- for the first time this summer.
I have never made hotel reservations by myself before, and I was wondering what the best way was. I'm a AAA member, and I browsed through a regional travel book; that seemed to be really helpful. But there's also all these Travelocity, Expedia, etc websites out there.
If you have a recommendation of hotel-booking method, please share. ^o^

You have not told us where you are going. There are some places where getting a good and chep hotel is no problem while there are other places where it is dangerous to syay just in any place.
I travel a lot by myself but the hotel depends on the place I´m going.

First you have to consider the destination before you make the hotel reservation. Use the search engine and check the best and cheapest price available. good luck.

If you know where you will be stopping on your trip, a good method is to look up the city hotels on the internet. We did this just recently for the first time, and we were well received at our destination. The trick to getting good value is, do not accept the first price quoted. Make an offer somewhat less than the quote. We did, and were able to get the accommodations very reasonable. When you are standing by the desk in the hotel, you don't have the same bargaining power as you do when you are sitting by your computer at home.

You can usually get better prices by calling yourself and using your AAA to get a price break.
When I traveled a lot as a young woman I ran into a lot of dangerous situations that I want to warn you about. If someone calls you after nightfall and tells you that you have a flat tire and offers to fix it if you open your trunk for the jack-or any other thing that makes you leave your room-don't do it and call the front desk and tell them. This is a classic method for rape.
When you are going into your room watch everything around you. If someone is near your door or any of the doors around your room is ajar, keep walking. Men like to wait with the door ajar or hang about corridors and rush you as you're opening your door. Also never open your door to leave the room without first taking a peek through the peephole or using the chain--modern rooms don't have a chain on the door but many of the older ones do.
I don't mean to scare you but it's better to know these things than to fall prey to them. I hope you have a great trip.

My husband and I use Expedia often to find the best prices on travel and accommodation and have never had any problems. Before booking just do your research and make sure you are getting a good price and try and find reviews about the hotel itself. Enjoy your vacation :)
